You will need a external power supply for Your power hungry external USB keyboard (Y-adapter or poweed hub).
The UI can not save a setting for a NOT connected keyboard.
So, first try a powered USB hub, then start h-e-n, open the UI and configure the kbd. Enjoy...
got this working with mouse (5-buttons opt intelli MS), keyboard (ny brand) and a NTFS-HDD

freemangordon, here's the link to the layout file: http://labs.danilocesar.com/maemo/keyboard/su-8w . It's placed in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/nokia_vndr/ , overwritting the old su-8w file.
It's hosted in http://labs.danilocesar.com/blog/200...cents-on-n800/, and it was originally written to work with Nx0 Tablets, but it does the job. I was pointed to this in the maemo wiki
Btw, I'm not sure what I'm to change in 99-x11-external-keyboard.fdi, in order to have it point to the layout file. Sorry, I'm still a bit Maemo clueless.

I installed extkbd and extmou and I can now enjoy using my Logitech Bluetooth Media Pro PS3 Keyboard (highly recommended) on my n900.
I also have Easy Debian installed too and now I can plug my N900 into my t.v. and enjoy using it like a "conventional" computer.
Both the trackpad and all the keys work as expected when using Easy Debian.
The only minor niggle is the n900 internal keyboard does not work correctly under Easy Debian (cannot get symbols) and the bluetooth keyboard behaves like the internal keyboard when I use native n900 software (have to hold key down to cycle through symbols- wierd. Maybe I need to reset the keymaps?
My n900 has become so much more useful now thanks to Qole & freemandragon.
Huge thanks for all the work you guys have done.

yeah... something like that. To be honest I do not see new questions asked here these days, did I miss something.

Edit: Yeah missed your questions, sorry for that. Just give me a couple of days, will try to upload new version of extkbd allowing selection of nokia keyboard layouts through UI. Problem is that I do not have su8w, so no way of trying if it works OK, will be shot in a dark

Just wanted to add a short success report for a "Freedom Universal Bluetooth Keyboard" which works great using extkbd including umlauts and everything (it has a German keyboard layout). Thank you for your excellent work freemangordon!

you should edit, not execute /etc/bluetooth/main.conf something like
vi /etc/bluetooth/main.conf
vi is unix text editor, you could use whatever editor you like, but not under windows, it will ruin config file
You may install midnight commander or leafpad

<merge key="input.x11_options.XkbLayout" type="string"></merge>
to use correct layout for your keyboard. This could allow you to skip manual setting your layout via setxkbmap.
And yes, compress and upload layout file here here, I will include it in next extkbd version
