I left my wifi on with the new driver loaded over night and I was greeted by 0.4% charge this morning, I had 80% last night..
I can't say definitively yet but this driver seems to use quite a bit more battery than the default one when left to idle.
Did you leave it in monitor mode?

This may sound stupid, but I'm slightly confused and have a couple of questions.

Do you have to install the version of power kernel included in the file or can you stick with the latest (v46) version already available in the repos.

Do you have to install some sort of bootloader. I have used multiboot in the past and ended up having to reflash my N900.

Finally, can I still use the other features in v46 power kernel (usb host mode particularly)

Once I've been reassured, I will have no problem donating

You can stick with v46. I've got the drivers patched and X shows my kernel to be version 2.6.10power46-wl1.

No, installation is essentially automated through Debian package manager, requiring little more than four commands to be entered into XTerm.

As far as I know yes. You can unload the injection driver when not in use as well, should any issues arise.

That IS the custom kernel. 46-wl1 is the custom one. Regular v46 doesn't have the -wl1 prefix. When you donate, the stuff you get as a download includes a new kernel to flash. This is basically power46, with only a couple (I think just one change - a module compiled for it) changes. So there's no noticeable difference to the end user, honestly, it's got all the power46 features. BUT what change does exist is necessary. So you can't literally stick with v46, because if you do, the injection driver won't work (well, maybe someone who knows what they're doing can figure it out better than I can. I don't know this stuff nearly as well). However, the kernel included with the injection driver is basically the same kernel you'd have if you 'stuck with' v46, like I said.

No, and it seems to be an issue even after the driver is unloaded.
It seems to be omap2_mcspi staying active even after disconnect.

I think it's part of the original driver as there's a bug report here:
https://test.maemo.org/testzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=8848

But I'm on my home network, I have changed nothing but this driver and now I'm experiencing this issue.

Any ideas as to a fix as this has made my battery life terrible.

Not unless an update came out in the last two days or so... Not sure. Sucks if it did, unless he's got that module in that one, or lxp has the time and motivation to keep doing the updates like he said he would.

I've been using this driver for the past few months and have never experienced this issue. Dual WRT54G w/ Tomato and DD-WRT, WPA2-AES, 10 client DHCP with static assigns.

I've used it with open, WEP, WPA, RADIUS and corporate 802.1x setups and have never run into this problem.

What router and configuration are you using?

i don't think monitor mode has something to do with the battery..

one question though..did u unload the modules after using it?

you could check the modules by
Code:
lsmod |grep wl12
first, restart the N900..then type the command above, it should produce 4 or 5 modules..these are the default ones..which will not drain battery..

then, load the modules as per instructed in the "readme" file
Code:
# cd MyDocs/wl1251-maemo/binary/compat-wireless
# sh load.sh
then, type the command "lsmod |grep wl12" again to show if the modules are being loaded...you will now see there are 7-9 modules

to unload,

Code:
Unloading the driver (just in case you run into problems and want to switch back to the stock wl12xx driver)

# sh unload.sh
when unloaded, the same command will show less modules..
