At no point does the system tell that it is trying to use the cert even if I set the notify option on in the certificate store.
Any ideas on how to proceed ? Any info would be appreciated...
I have exactly the same issue. N9 sales version, got it yesterday. Exchange 2010 server. MfE syncronization works perfectly with my N900. I've now done the same "tricks" to the N9 and am having no success getting it to work.

What's been done: I have imported&installed two certificates to the N9 cert store. I have added our server's non-qualified domain name to the hosts-file on N9. I can access the Exchange server using N9's browser without a problem: pointing the N9 browser to the server's non-fqdn address (which I entered to the hosts file) takes the browser to the landing page on the Exchange server without complaining/asking anything about the self-signed cert.

Then, I've set up all the settings in MfE client exactly the same way as on the N900. Tried with and without provisioning. The "settings wizard" attempts to make a contact with Exhange server (no popups about certs or anything) for a few minutes and fails with message "no response from Exhange server, check your settings".

I can't get any further than this and there are no logs I could use at /var/logs. Am a bit frustrated already.

I second that!! The search in the company adress-book is as important as being able to search through emails in local adress-book. Local adresses/adresses you have previously mailed to should appear as you type, I think...

Also, you can do the same thing while you are configuring account
Moreover, while you are configuring account you can change some other things like calendar name (the same way, but by taping on a "Calendar")

We allso had issues with N9 & Exchange 2010 combination. Try if this helps: Server Conficuration -> Client Access -> Exchange ActiveSync -> Properties -> Authentication -> "Client certificate authentication:" switched to "Ignore client certificates".
Just to test is that switch making the problem for N9.

Well, for us that is not an option as the client certificate authentication is handled by a firewall, not the Exchange 2007 server. No external connections allowed to internal systems without a client cert...

Sure it's not possible for most.

I'm having the same issue as some others here. The first sync after setting up the account or after reboot works fine, but soon starts the problems with server connection and the red arrow shows up.
