Firstly, thanks very much for all of the work to make Wazapp. Great to have it.
I have found that if I don't shut the program down from the menu, regardless of how I set up my phone, Wazapp will keep asking for a WiFi connection, even with all settings for internet connections, wifi, etc. switched off.
I had set all internet to off, in order to prevent roaming costs, but the requests were extremely persistent and interfered with navigation.

How about a simple "Wazapp Downloader" app for the Nokia Store.

It's only purpose is to have a big Download button which downloads and installs Wazapp.

I've downloaded dev branch zip, all of the /client files extracted over the older ones, all files chmodded 777, old .db file removed and when I start Wazapp I get splash screen and app crashes... trying to start it from the terminal ( /opt/waxmpplugin/bin/wazapp/wazapp) both without and with root privileges, but keep getting no permission... any idea?

This isn't a solution to the real problem. You've received two real use cases where this gives a problem. Roaming, firstly reported on Github and now in SWRs post, and navigation (and you probably won't have a too great 3G service while driving on a highway, so connection drops while driving will happen and will hinder the user in using the navigation software). On a Dutch tech forum which has an Nokia N9 thread there was another real use case where this is a problem. Using the (video) camera. The user had the device in flight mode so he could use the camera without being hindered. But he kept getting the "connect to internet" message. Of course without knowing Wazapp was the problem (and complaining Nokia made a crappy device).

When this apps gets added to the Nokia Store you'll probably get much more user complaints and real life examples how this "just ask the user to get a connection" is hindering the user in using the device.

I've also checked a small portion of the code, and it seems like every three minutes you'll try to connect. This means when the user doesn't have any service (nor WIFI nor 3G) he will get the message every three minutes. This also means the device will have to come from a (deep) sleep mode every three minutes just to try to connect. You could at least stop the timer after the first connection attempt (the user either does connect, doesn't connect, or even doesn't read the message). When he doesn't connect he'll probably has a reason to do so. When he isn't using the device, well, there doesn't really happen anything besides waking up the device every three minutes, which is bad for battery usage.

Another small tip. As the reconnect timer is in fact the ping timer, to send the ping to WhatsApp. I'll think its better to use the QSystemAlignedTimer. The timeout interval on this timer could be specified as an interval, for example two and a half minute and 3 minutes. This enables the device to trigger a lot of timers at the same time, so the device only has to wake up once and do a lot of things at the same time, and go to a deep sleep mode afterwards, instead of having to trigger a lot of hard set timers (3 minutes and no second earlier or later), which means the device has to wake up more often, and can't go into a deeper sleep mode. This is called a heartbeat timer and explained in detail in the harmattan develoeprs documentation

I suppose you are joking but apps in Ovi store goes through an approval process and it won't be allowed.
