@gerbick, the polls have a limited lifespan.

And on another note, my replacement N900 just lost its usb connector. I've been VERY careful with it. Time to write that wrap-up...

So it seems this issue was never fixed even with the newer production batch even though they claimed it would be fixed.

I don't believe it will ever be fixed while it's surface mount. Too bad Nokia continues to argue that point.

Ohhh geez that is bad news. I just got a new N900 replacement and am being super careful but it seems even that is not enough. Bugger.

Reading through this thread it is clear to see where "missing posters" have got off the train.

Unfortunately Nokia have refused to fix it because I live in UK but bought it in Us and they say they do not do international warranties. Doubt I will be getting another Nokia device again unless it is lightyears ahead of the competition. Given Nokia's recent offerings I don't see much chance of that.
It seems Nokia are doing there very best to get out of a repair and that is NOT good as it shows everyone what a shite company they are turning out to be WTF is an INTERNATIONAL warranty for gods sake what a load of ********, it is a dammmm design fault and they are duty bound to repair so go to trading standards and point them in the direction of this forum for starters.

Dont matter where you purchased your device it is still a Nokia device with a clear and understood design fault so you got 2 choices here.....

1: You demand as it is a DESIGN FAULT a repair or replacement regardless of where it was bought from it still is a NOKIA product.

2: As you said the port is still attatched then you could try soldering it as it most probably has hairline cracks (dry joints) on the rear data connections and if succesful then strip back the paint on the pcb and resolder the 4 earth posts to make it solid.

Dont put up with the shite they are giving you about warranty.

Good luck and please report back on this thread the results for everyone to read as many UK people bought there N900's from the states.

Strip off the paint around the 4 posts and resolder the 4 posts that hold the USB port on the board and you will never have a problem.

If you look carefully you will see the actuall pads that the 4 posts are soldered too are not actually connected to the main earth plain on the MB they are in fact not soldered to the main part of the earth plain, this is the reason the usb port breaks clean off the board as the pads they are soldered too are tiny, stripping the paint off to as large an area as you can around the posts and lots of solder will ensure it dont come off.

After repairing over 25 N900's now using this method none have gone faulty.

No reason why you can't start another thread/poll - just don't put a time limit on the poll.

It's a shame the mods don't sticky poll threads designed to give Nokia important feedback or potential buyers fare warning.

Oh dear

Now it seems even filing the prongs off (as I'm sure you did Texrat ?) is not enough...
