I'm also running into a few issues with downloading and playing videos that worked fine in previous versions.

It does seem to have something to do with the download quality chosen. As you note, the problem goes away if you select "normal" quality. I would also note that this issue even occurs on some videos where there is actually an option for a higher resolution available on the YouTube site (e.g., some videos may only work in CuteTube at the 360p download setting, even though 480p versions or higher might be available).

It's because of this issue https://bugreports.qt.nokia.com//browse/QTBUG-11403

I wasn't aware of it until now, so I'll fix it for the next update.

With HD codecs 480p should be perfectly playable, 720p is a no-go (unless there is some way to request H264 base profile instead of main)

Okay, thanks for the clarification. So can we presume that the "360p" setting is equivalent to the "High Quality" setting from previous versions?

Also, I do have videos that do play even though they were downloaded at the highest setting. I'm guessing that's merely because 360p just happened to be the highest resolution available for that particular YouTube video?

Yes, the resolution is dependant upon that of the original upload, and also the upload date. YouTube have increased the resolution for more recent videos from a maximum of 480x270 to 640x360.
