yes it does

I think this feature could be implemented without opening window, in background, by daemon...

main Calend app doesn't stop automatically after auto start at 00:00 - it remains running and becomes quite annoying, I see it's screen every morning first and has tap to X every morning first

Thanks for the report. It's on the list.

First, thanks to Rob for all his hard work porting these apps. Knowing that there was a working PIM that did 90% of what I wanted (I had to learn a few new ways of doing some things) and no critical short comings was what finally convinced me to buy a n810 (thanks, of course, to Gene Cash for writing these apps in the first place). I know that this is an IT and not meant to be a PDA, but it just wasn't worth the money if I had to carry around my palm to cover my pim needs (I only have so many pockets, and the n810 would be left at home and used only for playing after hours). Nokia should make sure you & Gene get deep developer discounts on future devices, because you are adding a critical feature that helps sell these things!

I'm hesitant to add any request that might add to Rob's workload, and certainly this is low priority compared to some of the outstanding bugs and RFEs, but I was hoping you could make it a bit easier to know when there was an upgrade to one of the apps. I can check your site, and you put the date you posted an app, but it would be helpful to add the date of the ported version to the "About" message so I could easily determine if what you had posted on your site was an update of the version I had installed. Another alternative would be add an RSS feed to your site where you announced updates. Again, these are very low priority, but modestly helpful given that these aren't distributed via a repository.

Thanks again!

Appreciate the thanks and glad Gene's apps are helpful for you.

I think it's a good suggestion to make his apps and the ports easier to find, update, and track bugs and issues. Some others had suggested moving them to garage.maemo.org and I think that's the best approach. I started discussing that with Gene some weeks ago, but I think we both back-burnered it. I'll get that moving again.

Rob, thanks a ton for undertaking the porting and bug fixing of Gene's apps!!!

A big feature for us Palm migration users is the ability to sync/backup to another calendar. I'd really like to be able to sync with google calendar. Does Erminig provide any flexibility to sync GC Calend instead of GPE Calendar?

Thanks again!

@speednut:

Syncing and a backup strategy are large missing features in Gene's apps... although I have my n810 backed up on my PC, if the device was lost or broken I have no easy way to access the backed-up data until I get a new device and reload everything. Gene's apps are designed to be portable and I believe he runs them on his desktop too, but even at my level of experience with them I probably would need a couple of hours to get them running on my Linux laptop.

A workaround for the backup case would be to export to iCalendar format as part of a (manual) backup procedure. That file could be imported into another calendar app if your NIT went south. Though Gene's todo app can only export to HTML, which is still better than nothing in a backup scenario.

As for erminig syncing Gene's calend, the short answer is no. Read on if you want the details.

I took a peek at erminig's code a few weeks back and it appeared to be reading the GPE sqlite database directly to do its syncing with google's calendar. Also, GPE's sqlite schema seemed to be its own format, and not really using iCalendar. So it would require a fair bit of effort to make erminig work with Gene's calend, and the payoff for that effort would "only" be google syncing.

I haven't delved into opensync too much, but their FAQ lists various plugins for GPE, google calendar, files, and various devices. So far my thinking is that opensync may be a better strategy for syncing, because the payoff for getting Gene's calend and todo to work with opensync is much more than just google.

If there's anybody who wanted to look further into opensync, that would be very helpful for this. Since Gene's calend uses almost-iCalendar format internally, if opensync has a way of syncing with generic iCalendar files then the task is already 80% complete.

man, is anybody going fix autostart at 0:0?
at least make autostop after all job done
or better split app in two parts - one starting and dealing in background and another frontend with UI (UI doesn't starts at 0:0)

It's tough for me to justify this as a priority when there are other bugs that can possibly cause a missed alarm or todo entry. Some users even like the 0:00 behavior. If somebody submitted a tested patch I could justify integrating it...
