Now long press shows monster info, and ctrl+click just attacks, like normal click. It's really hard to choose the right attack direction.
apparently this has been changed in source. ctrl-click doesn't exist in the current version, but if you were able to do it without ctrl-click then that shouldn't matter. Out of curiosity, how did you get monster info before?

In most cases I was not able to get monster info. Only when monster was out of reach long press did show the info. This was not a big problem however, since I remember most stats by heart.

No sign of it in the current upstream.

Here's the latest release changelog:
http://fheroes2.svn.sourceforge.net/...p&pathrev=1945

The September 18 fixes are not included in the N900 version yet.

I second that choosing the direction is a bit difficult as the tap gets monster info most of the time. Still dunno how and when the direction arrow shows up. I just keep trying darn hard for many times until the cursor becomes more stable and the direction arrow is in place.

Anyhow the game is terrific and is my all time favorite. The hypnotic CD music tenses up the atmosphere (even singing opera in castles!) and makes the game even more addictive.

By the way if you are looking for more maps perhaps this place would be of some interest to you. ;P

Having played HOMM 1 thru 5, i still love HOMM2 the best because of its tunes and fantasy manga like graphics. HOMM3 is a mess due to the explosion of new races (do you still remember how many kinds of dragons grow there?). 4 & 5 are just graphical mimics of WoW and alike with trivial changes in gameplay. Maybe I am too biased, i know that.

For some reason my music is not working.

Firstly, I copied my HOMM2 Gold data and maps to MyDocs/GameFiles/FreeHeroes2/data and ./maps folders, then pointed the lines in /opt/fheroes2/fheroes2.cfg (which I noticed was a redirect to /home/user/.fheroes2.cfg) to the MyDocs locations.

Then I took ang's files from 4shared, copied them to my N900, then moved the files to /opt/fheroes2/files/music in xterm, and tried to play... nothing happened at all, no music, just normal sounds.

I then tried ripping music from my disc, removing ang's files and adding my new ripped ones, with no success... I even tried both .ogg and .mp3 (Lame) file types.

I noticed a playmus command option in .cfg, but I didn't find any documentation of it. Tried launching with the command uncommented, and as it is by default, commented out.

My .cfg says this
Code:
# Default config fheroes2.cfg options:
#
# path to directory data
# default: /opt/fheroes2/files/data
data = /home/user/MyDocs/GameFiles/FreeHeroes2/data
#
# path to directory maps, you can set few maps
# maps = maps
# default: /opt/fheroes2/files/maps
maps = /home/user/MyDocs/GameFiles/FreeHeroes2/maps
#
# use alternative resource
# alt resource = off
#
# sound: on off
sound = on
#
# music: on,midi,cd,ext,off
music = ext
#
# sound volume: 0 - 10
sound volume = 6
#
# music volume: 0 - 10
music volume = 8
#
# external play music command:
# playmus command = ""
#
# video mode (640x480, 800x576, 1024x768, 1280x1024 or other divisible 32)
videomode = 800x480
#
# current animation speed: 0 - 10
# animation = 6
#
# fullscreen: on off (F4 switch)
fullscreen = on
#
# debug
debug = 0
#
# use ttf fonts
# unicode = off
#
# force lang
# lang = en
#
# font name (only with unicode = on)
# fonts normal = dejavusans.ttf
# fonts small = dejavusans.ttf
# fonts normal size = 15
# fonts small size = 10
#
# fonts render engine: (blended/solid) (only with unicode = on)
# fonts render = solid
#
# network port:
# port = 5154
#
# pocket pc emulation (set auto on for videomode < 640x480)
pocket pc = on
#
# pocket pc options:
# tap delay = 1050
# pointer offset x = 0
# pointer offset y = 0
#
# virtual key mapping:
# key_273 = '.'
# key_275 = '/'
I'd be very happy if someone could solve this or at least help me with solving this. I've spent hours on this and I'm getting nowhere fast.

Could it be I needed to install something for music to work?

Didn't do anything. I also tried redirecting maps and data to default folders (they're empty), which made no other effect than preventing me from starting any maps

d'oh I don't know what I'm on about.
Should be
music = ext

Check your options like this:
start xterm
type fheroes2.sh
(game starts)
Switch to xterm window with ctrl-backspace
press ctrl-c
game should close and you will get something like this:
Code:
# fheroes2 dump config, version 0.5.1916M
data = /opt/fheroes2/files/data
maps = /opt/fheroes2/files/maps
maps = maps
videomode = 800x480
sound = on
music = ext
sound volume = 6
music volume = 6
animation = 6
fullscreen = on
debug = off
fonts normal = dejavusans.ttf
fonts small = dejavusans.ttf
fonts normal size = 15
fonts small size = 15
unicode = off
pocket pc = on
Compare your output to mine.

also do this ls in xterm and check that output looks the same:
Code:
ls /opt/fheroes2/files/music/
02.ogg  05.ogg  08.ogg  11.ogg  14.ogg  17.ogg  28.ogg  42.ogg
03.ogg  06.ogg  09.ogg  12.ogg  15.ogg  18.ogg  29.ogg  README
04.ogg  07.ogg  10.ogg  13.ogg  16.ogg  22.ogg  30.ogg
EDIT the config file is in ~/.fheroes2/fheroes.cfg

Okay, it works now... I haven't verified it to be the reason yet, but I renamed my data path to /home/user/MyDocs/Games/fheroes2/data and ~./maps, and redirected the .cfg to point there instead of the default ones I previously tested on purpose.

I also deleted the music I previously saved in /opt/fheroes2/files/music/ and replaced ang's files with ones I ripped myself. They were in previously, but didn't work for some reason.

I didn't even get to hit CTRL+Backspace when trying out your instructions, it started playing music just fine. Maybe I forgot to try something with those, maybe music = ext wasn't set back then.

Big thanks anyway! Time to play some good oldies.
