MyContacts will only use one desktop. The latest version will not even require a full desktop.

There is no need to reboot. Sometimes after installing you will only see the blue box icon (instead of the real icon) but this doesn't affect the application.

Yes. The icon on the "programs menu" will give you access to the settings menu and also allow you to install the "widget" to the desktop.

As now the only way to install the widget to the desktop is using the icon on the programs menu.

You can run the application from the x-terminal command line but it is only recommended to help me debug the application.

Are you using the latest version? You had issues before with a bug on the mobility backend that this version should fix. That is why I asked you if you wanted to test.

I will try to fix if you provide me with the information I need. To start with the /home/user/.mycontacts/log.txt

The "phone" internally only use wav files for ring tones. It allows you to assign a different file format but it will convert it behind the scenes to a wav file and save it to a cache folder.

For MyContacts you just need to convert the file manually to wav before you can assign to a group. At some point I want to include the automatic conversion but can't tell you when

First, I was having a problem with single/double tapping in the widget - had to really quickly tap 4 times to open a dialog and 5 times to make a call... But then I read about changing the double-tap settings and it fixed it! Thanks.

Quick question - why by default it calls the home phone # on double-tap and not the cell phone number, which would be more intuitive?

Next question - can the huge font, in which phone numbers and emails are shown, be reduced? I don't think there is a need in such a huge font - N900 display is very clear and everything can be read just fine with default fonts... Plus long numbers (like international) and long emails won't fit now.

Any way to sort by last name and not the default first name?

And now a big question I have - any plans to separate the phone book (i.e. MyContacts main app) from the desktop widget and make the widget installable by itself? Oh yeah, and widget should survive reboots and doesn't require starting the phone book after every reboot
Don't get me wrong - I like it and I really appreciate your efforts! But personally I'm quite happy with the N900 built-in phonebook/contacts app (sorting, grouping, search, online presence) and don't see the need to re-implement those features... But, the desktop widget and the per-group ring tones are what's missing and what is the killer features! Keep up the good work! Thank you.

The last release has also fixed the default setting.

It shouldn't ... I will double check...

You can customize the way most of the application looks (including the font size). You will find more information on previous posts and I think I also have some on my web site

Not as now... but I will add to the list...

There is very little practical gain on separating them - you can just not use the one you don't like. I agree with you about installing the widget directly on the desktop (like any other widget) and surviving reboots though....

I too was having an issue with this app (and HorizontalCall) not starting, stuck in "Loading...", log reading "...data is corrupted", but yesterday's first release fixed that for me. (Still waiting for the HorizontalCall fix.) Now all of my 2600 contacts load fine.

Great! Glad to know... Is the application "usable" with this many contacts? What are the big pain (slow) points?

No need to try to fix my problems, "ADR attribute data is corrupted" & stuck at "Loading...Please be Patient", any more because your lastest version, 0.8.7.3-1, has fixed all the problems of mine.

Big thaks to you, fcrochik, for creating a very useful program and trying to solve isues that come after it. Also thanks to other members for posting threads, thoes threads are very useful, too.
