But tell me - apart from the accesories and the Samsung apps - and of course the hardware specs - how much different will this be from the Archos 70 tablet in terms of usage and default Android apps ?

Since I have these tow options at hand - wanted to compare these in terms of what I could get from each.

Edit : I would like to point that I haven't used an Android device - hence my questions are from a newbie perspective.
Thanks for the kudos. I'm just enthusiastic, though.

I should warn you, that I have limited exposure to Android as well, so these posts are purely based off of info that I've read.

I'm gung on the Tab for the mobile data and phone. I don't have a mobile, and would prefer a functional tablet to fill this need. The Tab seems like the only device on the market or coming to market that meets all of my criteria. However, if I didn't need mobile data/phone capability, then I would *certainly* wait a bit longer until the Tegra 2 tablets (which *will* be performance powerhouses -- a recent benchmark, showed favourable results next to the Tab) started to appear and likely saved some money for a WiFi only device in the bargain. They should be arriving later this year.

Samsung does a good job bundling software with their devices for a really positive out-of-the-box experience, but other than the hardware/specs, this tablet should be no more/less than the others. Many of the good looking apps previewed are available via the market, and Launcher Pro will provide an amazing homescreen experience. So loading any device should more or less meet the experience of the Tab.

I can't recommend anything, as I'm as informed as you are, so always try before you buy, or do a LOT of research before committing to a purchase!

Here's an interesting tidbit regarding the Tab: Apparently it will do 7hrs video (which is not a big deal). However the spokesperson during a slashvideo demo of the device said that it would do "much more" when simple web browsing.

This should be taken with a crystalline cluster of NaCl, but if this is true, battery life expectations may be stellar, and provide yet another desirable aspect.

I don't think it will have a user replaceable battery which will mean expensive replacement process.

The rumored price and possible carrier lock in makes me sad..

Edit: Rumor is an unlocked version might be 1k+ USD.

The joys of a mobile market completely controlled by the carriers.

Oh these were the rumored prices in Europe. Not in the USA. The 1k+ USD is after conversion to US dollars.

I seriously doubt it will cost $1K. Those prices were taken from Expansys (which sells the iPad entry level for $820US -- converted), a suspected O2 subsidy and plan over a two-year contract, and some other weak extrapolations.

I think it's best to wait for the official numbers. If nothing else, Samsung is very smart, and will likely price the device to be competitive with the iPad, which is around the $599 mark. Recall, the Galaxy S can be had for $599(source:amazon), which is the same as the entry-level iPhone 4 (source:apple). It was also available for $499 close to launch (iirc).
