When we find a developer to support it.

I am still here.
I would be happy to take the responsibility for this.

That would ofc be the ideal situation, so go for it

Even better if you could show up on irc from time to time

I am sorry for my English!
@nicolai, that in a portrait mode two lateral keys

Were visible entirely (were not cut off), I think it is necessary for portrait mode to add one more row of keys.
Accordingly all keys can be increased in size that it was convenient to press their finger!
Design of the virtual keyboard is better to make according to this variant.
At present the virtual keyboard in a portrait mode is practically of little use for use (a key very small). Therefore all hope in the decision of this question on you!
With the big respect and hope for you!!!

One of the issues reported earlier, is that the thickness of the letters does not change when rotating.

It will always keep the original thickness (meaning small when started in portrait and big when originally opened in landscape)

I hope you can fix this issue without too much effort.

How about german layout?
Imo a portrait vkb is more important to have than a landscape one, since I'd venture the hypothesis that a huge majority of N900 users would slide out the hw keyboard when already holding it in landscape orientation...
The FastSMS-Evo vkb imo is yet closest to a decent portrait vkb, but it takes about 10 secs to pop up the first time in each session.
