I have no inside knowledge of Nokia's tech or business strategy. That said, allow me to indulge in a bit of conspiracy-theorizing.

It's obvious that PR 1.2 has been done for weeks. The 1.2 SDK update was released almost a month ago. None of the recently closed official platform/official applications bugs that mention a specific internal firmware build mention one that's very recent. There's been plenty of time to QA and fix anything that could've come up.

My conclusion is that PR 1.2 is being delayed for business reasons. What are they? The floor is open for your thoughts.

As an aside, this PR 1.2 mess demonstrates why monolithic firmware updates are bad. Whatever business considerations Nokia has, they cannot possibly affect all of the software that makes up PR 1.2. The pieces that are not affected could've been released a long time ago.

No, the software development stack had been finalised and released. Between then and now the installation procedure for upgrading will have been tested to death, and specific issues detected (and fixed) with new 1.2 features which only arise when on a device, including clashes with third-party software.

Which is why some software is being split out into packages with this update, I remember reading somewhere.

Ok some dude on my Twitter claims PR1.2 will be the last firmware upgrade for the N900 (weird I know) and also N900 users will be given a choice to stay with Maemo 5 or shift to MeeGo !!

@SirajSoft
Nokia N900 PR1.2 will be the last firmware for N900 in Maemo so its taking too much time for fixing every bugs then its meego time

@SirajSoft

There will be choices to user to choose Meego or stay with Maemo 5 :-) N900 is official ARM based Meego

I'm Not sure what the sources are ...I'm not sure what to infer from these !

Unless it comes straight from Nokia, take it all with a grain of salt.

Take everything not from an official source with a very big grain of salt.

I'd be inferring nothing.
