I will be posting on the "official" Nokia forum, and hopefully I can get a response, or maybe a contact name/person I can email in Nokia Australia...

It is truely bad if Nokia admit to it being an issue, but yet refuse or advise their regional service centers... than it is just a recipe for disaster and easiest way to piss of their customers... .(loyal or new)

bad bad bad

thanks for being the "shoulder" for me to cry on about this problem...

About Nokia support. Here is official nokia forum and you can see that thread is stickied:

Also read couple of pages this thread backwards at least and try to find any information that might help you. Good luck.

All I can say is persevere.

However, I am now accumulating info on Care experiences for this problem, as requested by Nokia. I will write a new blog article soon to focus the effort; it will help if people spread the info virally once it's up.

In all fairness, my usb connector isn't disconnected it is just a bit loose ( I can't even tell except for the fact that it doesn't charge). Should I argue with them that I should get it replaced?
Repair by an official service center could be a matter of replacing the circuit board. That's as effective for this as getting a new device. But resoldering the connector isn't advised as a repair mode.

I’ve had the USA N900 for about 4 months now. I’ve been very careful in removing power adapters and usb cables from the phone. I am unable to charge anymore from the power adapter that came with the N900, but I still am able to use the usb cable to charge. I bought a 3rd party car charger and it is ify to charge the phone. I have to plug it in and out a few times to get the N900 to recognize(I believe this is a known problem but I am afraid of the stress it might cause by plugging in and out). I have not filed the prongs on any cord yet. I believe I will now. I will try another power adapter to see if its just bad, however I am very worried and concerned that the microusb connector might go bad and be removed. And if Nokia does not repair it if its still in warranty, they will lose another customer who is not willing to pay $600 on a phone and future phones that seems to be dwindling in official support and fixes.

A quick update on my situation:

After last Friday's unsuccessful attempt to get my N900 fixed under warranty. I rang Nokia care again to lodge a product complain. It turned out the local service center did not document his "Physical damage" result, so Nokia care asked me to bring the phone into their service center to assess properly... as I was not too happy with wasting my time driving there again, I requested for a postal option in which Nokia was covering the postal cost.

However, after I have posted on the Official Nokia forum raising my issue, I have received 2 PMs from the Australian customer support. They both have received my case number, and my personal details; and they both assured me my case will be resolved. and all Australia's Nokia Care centers should have been notified of the warranty issue for the N900 (Guess I was unlucky to get the one specific tech who didnt read his memo)

Anyway, I will need to post my phone to their center tomorrow, and hope that it wont take too long to repair/replace.

Obvious I know, but I never If you value your data and the time you spent 'building' up and customising your phone and apps etc. then:
TAKE A REGULAR BACKUP !! ... do it now !

If you have a N900 then there is a good possibility that the usb data/charging port will become loose or detach and you'll have no means to access your phone/data/apps and with Nokia possibly offering a replacement handset under warranty and you losing everything.

Thankfully I found a local Nokia Service Centre who re-soldered the micro USB for 25UKP and had my phone available the next day.

Happy to have my N900 back and working, but unhappy with Nokia' s poor design on the inadequate securing of the heavily used micro USB socket.

My n900 has just stopped accepting that i have a lead connected to it (usb or mains charger).

Last time i used it with a lead was yesterday at around 3pm i copy/paste some pictures over to my work pc. Everything went fine no problems and then when it came to later on in the day i plugged the phone into my home pc,the phone didn't register that it was connected by usb at all and even the wall charger doesn't charge.

On all my chargers and usb leads i had filed the teeth down so the connections were a looser fit and have had no problems at all with them.

Any ideas anyone??

sorry guys, i haven't got time to go through this thread or use the search function due to my battery running out

edit

strange thing i have found,

if i turn the phone off then plug the usb lead into the phone from my pc, it starts to charge showing the orange charging led then goes into a loop with no back light but showing the nokia splash screen and the booting dotted bar.i can turn the phone on and it boots fine but still will not charge.
