In soccer, if the club goes out to declare continued support to the coach, it ALWAYS means he has less than a week left. This quote however, seems to be more along the way of "i am impressed what he has managed to do already" - which tells another, fantasy genre, story. More comical ali than replacement hunter.
Yeah, but this is smartphones, not soccer. Don't be surprised if the Chairman (don't know what he's smoking) really means what he said and Elop leads Nokia to the grave "with the Board's full support."

How dare you, sir! A captain would NEVER intentionally steer his ship into danger!

After watching Google IO, I have serious doubts that MS will ever catch up. The Nexus 7, and then a 10, and the tablet market is all Android.

...Or Android variants (Amazon, Nook, etc.). Honestly, considering how much Google is rapidly opening up source code--even for hardware and drivers, even for mainline Linux--and allowing ANYONE to customize deeply to the point of not even truly being 'Android' anymore, this is probably the best of outcomes anyway. Nokia started out with good intentions in Maemo but failed to listen to customers, developers and even their own employee engineers. If there's just ONE thing Google has always done right, it's listening to their engineers and enabling them to just invent like crazy and enjoy being inventive instead of being told that they need to be reigned in, as business executives tend to do.

Good on Google... and I'm deeply disappointed in Nokia.

Indeed, it's starting to look like we might finally have off-the-shelf hardware that can run a real GNU/Linux system. Thank $DEITY for that, because if MS had their way that would become impossible on ARM. And even though I'm not interested in the large tablet form factor that Nexus 7 does look an attractive box for hacking.

Let's not forget that the new boardmeister was raised to his position during Elops company reign. Selected*) because he's thought he can cooperate perfectly with Elop. He's probably as Elop-friendly at the moment, that he can possibly be. The rest of the board, however, should continuously check the map.

*) Although he was, if I remember correctly, groomed for the job before Elop even was hired.

The board selects the CEO, not the other way around. They are all, individually and collectively, culpable for the mess.

Yes, but the new board director was ment to work with Elop, it has been the plan for a long time. And it's in part the same board that hired him.

Agree 100% Google knows how to extract and utiliza creativity. At the moment they are the best.
