I think that you're probably right, but the fact remains that Nokia UK have been telling people something else. If there'd been a nice clear announcement on the tenth that said they'd started shipping and would be in stores on the 23rd then I think people would have been a lot calmer. It's not so much the wait that's the problem as it s the being told things that aren't true.

The German Nokia page updated some information about the N900. They are showing off that it is superfast and open source and ready for - guess what - preorder
Shop still says 25th November, but they're making some sort of: "There IS something more coming at the 24th November". Maybe the N920 for preorder? Really don't know...

There are pros and cons to any phone and platform.
Android is a definite possibility but it's still very new. We're only now seeing what will happen when there's a wide range of devices out there. Building Android apps for one or two very similar devices is one thing, building apps for a wide range of devices is very different.
With the applications I think a lot of developers will be interested because it's Linux + QT.

By intentionally introducing a long artificial delay.
They pick a date several weeks after shipping that every store is likely to have recieved stock and be ready. Stores receive stock in the meantime but are forbidden to sell it.
They don't tell consumers when they've shipped it and many retailers could have physically sold the device days, if not weeks, before the 'launch' date. .. if it weren't for the manufacturer forcing them to not give their customers what they want.

I think there will be more Android phones by the end of this year than Maemo5 powered devices. A few manufactures have announced they want bring a Android phone to the market but Nokia is the only one who's into Maemo.
Yeah, that's the point... I will most likely buy a N900 because of its Linux and GTK/QT but I think I'll wait till both devices are available and check them both.
