Maybe I've got some repo conflicts, but I can't get xournal to install properly.
weird thing is, that xournal works when invoked thru the console.

If you've got root access try these commands:

dpkg -r xournal
dpkg -r libart-2.0
dpkg -r libart-2.0-2
dpkg -r libgnomeprint2.2
dpkg -r libgnomeprint2.2-0
dpkg -r libgnomeprint2.2-data
dpkg -r libgnomecanvas
dpkg -r libgnomecanvas2-0
dpkg -r libgnomecanvas2-common
dpkg -r ghostscript (OPTIONAL)

Note that some of them may not be installed in your system.
Go ahead and remove all of them.

If you have gnumeric installed, leave libart untouched.

I just uninstalled my Xournal 4.1 and downloaded the newer 4.2.1 version. But I am still showing the original icon. Did you update the icon too, or does everyone still show the older one? I ask this because I am using simple launcher and it will not launch Xournal anymore, and it did with the older version. I have to go to extras and launch from there. Is this the same for everyone?
Sorry....I posted too hurridly. I switched off my N800 then on again, and now Xournal again works in Simple Launcher. Should have tried that first! But other question still stands, is the icon still the same one that was with version 4.1?

I did not change the icon that I found in the 0.4.2.1 source code.
So if that is the same as of Xournal 0.4.1, then yes, it should be the same.

For the sake of curiosity, why were you expecting a different icon ?

To let you guys know, I am starting to work on localization of Xournal.
As soon as I have a .po file I will let you guys know and ask for translations in as many different languages as possible.
The help file is already available for translation
You can find that here: /usr/share/osso-help/en_GB/xournal.xml (that's the same as en_US for now).

Unfortunately I have also to work again now. I took some days off, but now I am back at it.
Thus, I shall be slower.

I can only say, I think my memory is playing tricks on me
I had thought that in a previous post I had read that the icon would be different in this version....but there ya go...my mistake. I do that once in a blue moon
Thank you for working on and porting this terrific app for us!!

nope, that didn't do the trick. i tracked it down to a conflicting libart so. Could be fixed with dpkg -i --force-overwrite libart*

Oh, btw, Xournal is now Third in the Popular section and still climbing fast.
It's also climbing fast in the Stars section
