They if it moves to any thing, it should be PDA. Whether or not Nokia's marketing can release the legacy PDA users from thinking PIM aside, the ITs do manage digital assets in the same vein.

Frankly, if the software just works then it won't need a name at all, because the branding will be in the quality of the platform.

I recall a TV SciFi show about a cop in space with irreverence for technology. His pocket computer was speech activated and he addressed it as "Box". Not a good choice from a marketing perspective but still memorable.

Oh, I can see it coming now : some editor on Globulon Prime will sift through the 13,483,587,371,458 posts in this forum then add an entry to the Encyclopaedia Galactica...

I have referred to my PDAs (Visor Edge-T3-N800) as my Brain since I got the first one.
ie To my Wife: "If it's not in my BRAIN, I won't remember it"
Too late, already taken by a (sharp) competitor... :-)

Was that Gerry Anderson's "Space Precinct"? I don't recall too much of it (that particular part of the nineties is largely a blurr), but "Box" rings a -- rather distant -- bell. Or maybe that's just my ears remembering 1995...

I think you're right on the name of the show. I can visualize the actors face but can't remember the name. We all have our periods of blur -- mine was in the 60's. Ever since the Atari's Portfolio I've carried some kind of PDA. Ther was a coworker that called my Palm Pilot my "Brain".

This should help clarify the naming of devices in and around the Maemo 5 device marketplace.

Netbook Flowchart:

It seems that in this chart, the question becomes: Is Maemo a "Special OS" or a "Full OS"?

Original Article: So, what's the f**king difference between a Netbook and an ultrathin?

Exactly, which determines whether it's a wallet or a netbook.

Apparently "Video ports" refers to S-Vid, but not VGA &c., at least that's the only way it makes any sense to me...

I'm gonna say that Peter the marketing guy should be less concerned with what the iCrowd think and more concerned with "keep it simple". Don't follow, lead.

Nokia should not become an iPple copycat, like everyone else is. You can't compete with iPple anyway, that would require iPple buyers to consider other brands, which iPple buyers never do.

Nokia released the Internet Tablet at a time when handheld internet was exciting. Now everything that size is expected to have internet so Nokia has lost much of it's the edge at this market. And HTC and everyone is doing the 800x480 thing now. But Nokia has the legacy - and legacy is a GOOD thing. Marketing people may think that because tablet PCs were too expensive to sell, the word is associated with failure. Ask Wacom if they agree. Nokia should not try to find a new name for an old success from a small niche. They should wear their history with pride because they have owned this market, they were innovative and did good. Don't dump the name because a similar named marketing hype is over. Take the market and make it yours again.

Be proud of what you did with the Nokia Internet Tablets. Just remove the superfluous when you take it further.

I welcome the Nokia Tablet.
