Can somebody please point me toward the documentation for MediaBox? I seem to be unable to find it.

Feature request / GUI improvement suggestion:
Could you add a function to directly start playing the contents of a file or all files in a folder/listview when e.g. the user touches the icon of the item in question? (Leaving kinetic scrolling working in the areas where the text of the titles is shown)
The curent way with the DOT-Icon > ADD or PLAY button is a bit too complicated. Most often, I would simply like to select a folder and then listen to all the music in there. The way it currently (seems to) work makes using Mediabox quite a task. "I don't want to have to think when I just want to listen to some music" :-)

Thanks!

There is not much of user documentation as of now. If you have questions just ask. I'm planning some walkthroughs for the non-obvious features, though.

I agree with you that we don't want to think when listening to music.
But unfortunately, you only describe how MediaBox shouldn't do it, instead of telling us how it would be better in the GUI. Mockups and sketches are always welcome.

Is there a way to hide the left bar? I find it kind of annoying that it's there when it's not being used.

Not yet, but I'm thinking about hiding it when not in use as well. Maybe in 0.96.5.

MediaBox 0.96.4 is available now. Changelog of the new version:

Browse music by genre

Improved UI rendering performance

Advanced list navigation with slide effects and remembering last position

Fixed some media indexing bugs

Downscaling of hi-res videos for smoother playback in the mplayer backend

Display can be kept lit while playing media

Headset button gestures (1x: PLAY/PAUSE, 2x: NEXT, 3x: PREVIOUS) in the maemo
input schema

Small workaround to get smoother video playback with mplayer on maemo

Option in the media scanner preferences to reset thumbnail previews and have
them generated again

Command line options for disabling plugins

Plugin compatibility API bumped to 1.01

Bugfixes

If you have problems upgrading using the Application Manager, try to upgrade the plugins for MediaBox first.

To get pictures to show for all the artist and albums do we need a picture like folder.jpg in each folder?

Is this still so? It should be available by now in maemo-extras.
