Had a look at the site and I must say well done! Is there any sort of limit on file size for the images for the N900 to work properly?
I guess not but I am just having a play around in photoshop with 3200x480 image just using some basic gradient functions and I am getting file sizes of around 18Mb which isn't too bad. Just wondering if the transition between desktop screens will "jump" if it has trouble loading the image. I guess we all want the transition between desktops to be seamless. Any thoughts/experience with this?

I'm no expert on photography, but I'd think that a compressed format like jpeg would reduce the file size at any rate?

Yes, but it reduces the quality at a dramatic rate. PNG should be preferred format for wallpapers.
