Also I wanted to quit complaining about "troll takeover" and actually contribute toward a solution.

But I can certainly see why that combination would bother people. All frustrating aspects aside, if I did back down from moderator duties it would be because of a) time constraints and b) I had found an alternative means of contributing. In fact if a few more folks came aboard as moderators, I would likely step aside anyway.
Texrat, I didn't expect this to get out of hand like it just did. The OP has an issue with something and got strong reactions in return... big deal. Welcome to Forums You can give any excuse you want to why you wouldn't be here anymore but if you want to prove your loyalty to the community then listen because you'll realize that 99.9999% of people still want you to stay, as a Mod.

I believe that the N900 is a sinking ship and those who decide to stay will eventually (soon) own an outdated brick. Most developers want money, recognition, competition and a true market. The N900 cannot offer that because Nokia gave up on it the moment MeeGo came into the picture. Maemo.org should create a respectable N900 talk/opinion section to thank Nokia for everything it has done to the N900 and its clients.

Startling true comments said for once in the right manner ! and as much as i agree with this one thing the N900 will NEVER be and thats a brick, no way impossible because it is easy to modify hardware wise let alone software.
Texrat comment i fully agree with and i would be in the line for starting a petition to keep him here ! ha.
He is unique and rare unlike his counterpart who in turn is a complete sham in comparison so i strongly suggest Texy starts a school for moderating as i feel a lot more need to follow suit !.

I think Tex is a nice guy, but i would have gotten this impression too if he wasn't moderating. Actually I don't understand how someone would want to become moderator anyway. This job is a black hole, it consumes a good deal of energy and more importantly, leisure, you could have used otherwise. While some argue that it is a good thing to do, and is based on good intentions which magically pay back through some real-life karma system (which i doubt, but you never know, right?), i suspect a good amount of masochism behind the decision to spend a couple of hours per day evaluating suspicious boxes of text and fighting them.

I've said this countless times, but on the web there is no intervention needed, things sort out themselves quickly if you give a proper set of controls to the hands of users within a community. But since Nokia is more or less involved here, you need some symbolic gestures, like a symbolic authority, just for the sake of it, concepts familiar to the corporate world like moderation, which signal that things are going the way they "should", while it doesn't really matter if they do or don't. TMO is just another marketing outlet, and a good way to save money on professional support. The human need to connect and engage in (para)social activity is being screwed and abused in order to keep the machine going.

This thread is going way out of hand. <Thread closed>.

Jk.. But I do somewhat agree to what the OP says.. but at the same time there are quite a few of unwanted threads.. I mean come on.. This is a community site, we don't want to have people rant about their mistake of getting an N900.. and then when someone points out that they have indeed made a mistake they start attacking... And the constant whining and whining isn't helping either.. Note: This is a community site! Sure it's being paid by Nokia.. But Nokia officials rarely look at those "complaints", and I am not sure if they actually look at the site anyways..

So I am actually glad that those threads are getting closed.. And if you notice that if the OP uses constructive criticism, the thread will have mostly positive feedback from others + the thread doesn't get closed...

That's just my two cents though.

</rant>... Thanks for reading. You can now move on.

Wow, h3llraz0r managed to squeeze an apology out of Texrat.

I think the trolls truly have run of the place now.
