I uploaded a new version (see first post).

You can use the keyboard control (key "i") to cycle
through the Automatic/100/200/400/800/1600 ISO setting.

Nicolai
On the first post you forgot to add:

a Automatic Camera mode

I'm just going to throw out my suggestions for keyboard shortcuts

a/z - zoom out / zoom in
r - toggle on / off RAW

Scene mode selection:
p toggle portrait / automatic
m toggle macro / automatic
l toggle landscape / automatic
n toggle night / automatic
v toggle video / automatic
V toggle night video / automatic

c capture image (still and video)

f/g decrease / increase focus (step 1)
F/G decrease / increase focus (step 50)

Pics like that are aperture controlled photos. N900 and most ultracompacts have no aperture. The pics you posted are from stock images and are likely takes with over-kilogram cameras.

The best you can go is de-focus the bg by placing the objext very close. While a DSLR commonly have a 24mm sensor, N900 has a 2.5 range or so, with an even smaller optic system, so it has to be really, really close. Think minimum focus. 5cm?

This comes up surprisingly often. You can't compare phone photos with anything dedicated, let alone a pro photo with gear.

Or just photoshopped afterwards, which is the cheaper option

You only get a similar effect, not the same, because a true aperture photo blurs "in 3d", which is to say proportional to the z axis. In a PS mod, this is hard to do and likely to look plasticky. OTOH, few can tell, so, you know, viable option.

Oh, and, blur from out of focus is not really blur, but a distortion of focus that is unique to lens design and shutter design. A circular shutter from a 5 blade iris is different from a 7 blade, from a long glass, from the various lens designs and coatings, etc. People choose lens according to how light breaks when lens is out of focus. And some people can tell what lens design you have from the shape of blown spots of light. (a hexagon-like shape is taken with a six blade iris, and the shape of the sides and softness of corners is curvature of the blades)

I'm off topic so I'll stop. Suffice to say, again, there's a reason some DSLRs cost in the small sedan range.

Update! (see first post)

- compute available video recording time
- on screen capture button
- extra settings (lenscover/focusbutton behavior) are
now saved in gconf (/apps/camera/settings/extra-settings/)

Thanks Nicolai. If I can be greedy, can I also ask for the memory (external card or internal memory) and RAW to be also saved.

When the ISO is set to 800 or 1600 the ISO sensitivity area in the settings (wrench) menu is not displaying properly.

Checking the first post you still need to list the A shortcut to change camera settings back to Automatic from the other Camera modes.

memory settings should already be saved in gconf.

Need some help!

I would like to have additional icons for the UI.
It's something that I absolutely cannot.
The icons should have a similiar design like the stock camera app
icons. There are two types of icons needed: normal and pressed.

The icon size for icons on the left/right side are
normal icon: 48x48 (HILDON_ICON_SIZE_FINGER)
pressed icon: 64x64 (HILDON_ICON_SIZE_THUMB)

The icon size for icons on the bottom side are
normal icon: 32x32 (HILDON_ICON_SIZE_STYLUS)
pressed icon: 48x48 (HILDON_ICON_SIZE_FINGER)

I need:
  • timer icon
  • colorfilter icons (normal, sepia, grayscale, colorswap, negative, solarize)
  • capture image icon
  • better icons for video recording/pause/stop?
  • "white balance automatic" icon
  • "iso level automatic" icon (at the moment I use just a "A" icon for both)
  • two icons for the additional "iso 800" and "iso 1600" iso level
  • gps search/gps disabled
( I don't like how the stock camera app
shows the gps search. This icon blinking is annoying, especially
when the app isn't in fullscreen mode and you see the app icon
and the statusbar icon both flashing at different rate.)

More?

Nicolai

Hi Nicolai,
I don't have an answer for this, but currently there is no easy way to manage RAW files on the N900 using Camera-UI2. Right now what I do is move Camera-UI2 DNG's to the same directory that FCAM is using. With FCAM I can then review the RAW file sand delete them. The RAWs are very similar and all it does is pull the thumbnail anyways so its not that difficult.

RAW Viewer lets me view photos but does not allow me to do any deleting. I can use the regular file manager and just look at the associated JPGs but the thumbnails are small.

Anyways, I have no easy solution but wanted folks to know that FCAM does a good job of managing the Camera-UI2 DNGs on the N900 for those that want to use it.
