Yes, the reason for that is that ubiboot kernel (the 1st stage loader kernel) does not support exfat.
This is natural enough, really, since it was built last June and extfat support just came out in this month...

No, that's not true.
The boot problems of 1603 were not because of mtd use, they were because of BME.

Could be a tracker problem, perhaps?
I've noticed that sometimes tracker spins its wheels in the air if the MyDocs is modified and remounted...

I cannot remember exactly but it had something to do with the search paths getting mixed up. Cannot remember though was the file that needed fixing on /etc/ or somewhere under /home/user/...

OMG, exfat works! Also it works with backupmenu! But nitroid doesn't start - I'll try to fix it. And backupmenu "thinks" that current date is 01.01.1970 But it works!!!

I don't use ubiboot, gonna test it all together

backupmenu 'thinks' that current date is 01.01.1970 also with kernel 2.6.32.54-dfl61-20121301!

It's not about the kernel
You need to get the date&time from RTC with "hwclock -s" in the init before launching backupmenu or whatever.
