This is prob my biggest concern as the 18 month contract with my e90 seemed like forever but I have done my research and as long as I get half of what ive been promised 2 years of to quote myself of "fannying about" will be happy ones.

I guess I just wanted to give those dark thoughts in my head a voice but I will stay faithful! look forward to being a part of the community..Bring on next week.
Glad to help, I too have had doubts, but when I look around, there just isn't anything to compare, so Im committed, and can't wait to get tinkering, also over a few glasses of whiskey no doubt

Totally agree. while this website is full of negativity it is the same posters that keep appearing again and again on each thread. makes it hard to get a grasp on full scale of the issues and more than a few times I have wondered whether there are a few apple fanboys, employees lurking about.

I was in London on Friday and took a detour to the flagship store. there were guys outside giving demos, friendly and somewhat knowledgable (I showed one my n800 and he was genuinely interested). He said there'd be none in the store for sale for another week, so we're talking about 4th December. They were handing out leaflets with £499 off contract, and a contract deal with vodafone - no mention of any other carrier. I was just getting into it when the three guys (I think there were three) were all called off to a meeting without the reason being stated.

I wasn't able to ascertain what release of maemo was on it, or to have a detailed poke around, I only got to play for about three minutes, sorry.

Nope, they took delivery late Fri and people have picked up from them today, with the rest being shipped Mon - hopefully this means that MPD will get the a***s into gear..

BREAKING NEWS?

N900 now available for collection for pre-orders.

Quote from LoveMyN900

Got mine today 28 November 09 from the Nokia Store in Regent Street London. I had pre ordered the phone over a month ago and FINALLY I have it. Feel sorry for those iPhone users. The official release date for the Nokia N900 for the public is 4 December 09.

If your in London go there now and collect your phone, the list of pre orders I saw is massive.

I have been watching this phone since it was announced, I have followed via Engadget and other sources drooling at every pic. I have patiently waited on my pre-order drooling over official and unofficial videos. I have sat at the lunch table watching every colleague around me playing with their iphone, smugly knowing that they had nothing compared to the device that would be arriving on my doorstep shortly.

...but recently, ever since people started recieving there device, there is a sea of negativity flowing in these forums. I have seen hardcore early adopters whimpering in the corner with their broken mic issue and draining batteries.

For me a phone with linux is the ideal gadget. I enjoy nothing more than fannying about getting things working but at the same time as a skint dad my phone is the only gadget i allow myself, and it has to have the wow factor...Im an mpd customer and potentially have another week to go but the question is knawing at me and getting louder and louder...after all this time of waiting...am I making the right choice???

Prob the whisky but thoughts and comments would be much appreciated. Mines is a 24 month contract (never committed to that length before but such was my passion for this device) Are we being blind sighted by what we want to have not to see the flaws of the n900?
Speaking for myself I find the n900 fiddly and very confusing, but I am 60 after all, but the feeling of having the internet in my pocket and it being open source, warms the cockles of my heart.

Take tonight, I gave a lift to a friend somewhere and waited outside in my car, whilst they sorted a problem out.

Usually I would be fed up after short while hanging around waiting, because I would rather be at home on the 'net, doing what I normally do, most of the time, online chess usually.

Sitting in the car on the 'net felt good, I felt like my life was more free.

My n900 will let me travel and take the 'net with me where ever I go, technically speaking I could have done this with my previous phone a Samsung e900, but the screen was so small in terms of the 'net as to be virtually useless and of course being closed source the Samsung is anti public.

From a hardware point of view I have absolutely no complaints at all, the screen resolution has to be seen to be believed, this is the first HD mobile phone on the market and this is what makes the real difference, it almost makes me want to get higher power glasses.

Mic works fine, everything works fine, some of the software is a bit ropey around the edges but the fact that it is open source means it will soon receive a polish.

The worse software as far as I can see is the GPS stuff- talk about incomprehensible, get it working like Tomtom please Nokia.

Going on some of the comments on this forum it seems to me the people who have had hardware problems are very much in the minority, most people here have been praising the n900 after receiving it.
