I don't need to Google "overclocking consequences" and do research. We all know the primary risk is that overclocking creates extra heat and this can damage components.
Other "experts" mentioned it is rarely heat for ARM processor, the heat are most probably the battery.

It's good to read from other sites as well, so know what's happening around and also learn more things.

I'm no expert, but I understand what you're trying to say about N900 OC with current custom testing kernels. Mostly these kernels are all under sort of trial-and-error or try-outs.

Hopefully we'll get a stable and good OC settings soon, and also someone to come up with the app like Android which allows changing clock speed at runtime with intelligent features.

Here's a hack to make it not go back to 600 MHz after a call has finished:

Edit /usr/share/policy/rules/current/policy.dresc and change "scaling_min_frequency" to "scaling_mIn_frequency" and "scaling_max_frequency" to "scaling_mAx_frequency". As this file does not have any publicly released sources available, **** if I know if there's a better way.

For me - I don't see *any big* difference between 600 and 800/900Mhz in terms of general GUI performance. I suspect that either my device is too loaded with apps/packages/widgets and thus the difference in speed change is negligible (i.e. it is too slow), or there are too *less* apps/packages/widgets and thus the speed change is negligible (i.e. it is too fast) .
There's a very cool video on the Meego area about overclocking the N900.

I'm running at 800Mhz and don't see a huge difference, but I do see a distinct small difference.

Oh, and to answer Cashclientele's inquiry -- there have been no serious bad consequences attributable to overclocking that I know of on the N900, but that is misleading, because experience has been brief.

btw, can anyone browse this thread from their N900?? cannot see the latest pages even when zooming
you can move to the next page by clicking the page link then change the number of the page.

showthread.php?t=39753&page=123

I also opened temp1_input with leafpad and it says -40 there too
when I followed the tutorial to add heat indicator, mine keeps saying 22 sometimes it's 30. After I replaced battery it show -40 too. I don't know why?

>=600 means smallest available frequency >= 600MHz

so only with letho's 250/500/625/720/900 kernel you would see that
the max after the phone call is 625MHz. can anybody confirm that?
when i start a call its 900mhz after few sec is lower 125-250 . after call had ended its normail 125-900

Are you sure you're not using letho's 125/250/500/595/900 kernel?
