Okay I have rooted my Tab and blocked ads but now when I play videos in Rockplayer I get a big horrible R button at the top left of the screen. This is far far more intrusive than all the adverts I was getting before. Think I may have to unroot my device unless I can find a way to get rid of that R.

Check this out:

It seems that Samsung has made some optimizations on the browser with the latest Galaxy S firmware. It's $@%!ing smooth:

Even with flash on, this thing smokes... Amazing...

It seems that the community is restless and demanding GPU acceleration for Android UI compositing. I'm with them.
http://www.satine.org/archives/2011/...e-android-gpu/

The bottom line?
- Compositing is done in software, which is slow and cpu hungry leading to slow display/animation and reduced battery life.
- Garbage collection on the UI thread blocks the UI and causes stutters in the animation. It should be handled better.
- GPU compositing has been proven effective by iPhone/WP7 and some android developers that have taken matters into their own hands (see above post)

Why the Android team downplays the importance of this optimization is beyond me. The benefits are proven, clear, and very important to UX in general. Moreover, the community is crying out for it.

The teams argument seems to be that eventually CPU performance will make things smoother. This is true, but while CPU performance will make things smoother, it certainly won't improve battery life, and will likely leave fewer resources for other tasks.

GPU acceleration should be top priority.

It looks as if OnLive (the game streaming service) is coming to Android!
http://www.androidcentral.com/onlive...ndroid-devices

Ok, so it's only officially announced for the upcoming Vizio tablet, but even so, it's encouraging.

For those that don't know, OnLive streams full games to your device for a monthly subscription fee. What this means is that on a device like an iPad or Tab, you can enjoy a game that would take very powerful dedicated hardware to otherwise play!

Apparently it works quite well in practice, though I would suspect it would need a fast and reliable internet connection.

I actually really disliked Rockplayer. I suspect the problem won't go away by unrooting. The asshats that wrote Rockplayer are specifically placing a giant R button there where the ads go. (ref: http://rockplayer.freecoder.org/instruction_en.html) You would have to unblock ads (not unroot) to bring back the ads and that still won't stop it. (ref: http://www.diffthink.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=42) You would have to purchase the app to remove both the ads and the big read R in the corner. I don't think it's worth it.

Use something other than Rockplayer. I prefer the Samsung video player, myself... plays everything I throw at it and plays it very well.

The horrible huge R I was getting on videos has now thankfullly (and mysteriously disappeared).

Also found the social websites widget I was looking for. Had to rely on google and then searching the Tab manual. It is called Feeds and Updates. However, it only shows up on the add widget list if you are using the Samsung stock launcher. Since I am mad for Go Launcher it means it is not an option for me.

I think if you rename the folder with your files as notifications then you would be able to select those as notifications. That is what I did and it worked for me.
