i thought that could have been too many logins in different places, phone, pc, laptop, work, gadgets with too many different ip's and if that was the reason it is a really odd way to protect me...

BUT you are seperating function and usabilty- in practise there is no seperation thats the fundimental problem and why your argument fails- its about UI.

you also fail to undserstand the market- 90% of people want something that works and works well staright out the box, they dont care if you call them a dumb user or not.

the n95 had every function under the sun- problem is none worked effectively.
By 'dumb', I am referring to feature phones not users.

Yes like I said Nokia needs to improve usability but a majority of users are not so fussy. The N95 sold pretty well despite usability etc. thanks.

Lets not forget that the N900, Androids and iPhone are all expensive high end devices. They are all in a niche that few people actually care about, at least enough to purchase one.

The big battle is between Nokia, Samsung, LG, SE, Huawei and a few others, and that battle is over the emerging markets in less developed countries.

I mean, discussing what is "best" of Maemo or Android in terms of performance and apps, is at best an entertaining academic exercise. I wonder what would be most popular of a closed down Android, only suitable for high end HW, or open Maemo, also suitable for development for low end open Symbian devices in those emerging markets?

bsving you are sort of right. in uk rest of developed europe and us we sometimes can take things for granted.

and then look at asia- including china(1 third of the poulation)- imagine trying to tap that up

btw i loved the n95- because it still did the basic things better than anyone else- problem was the gps and internet/mail/media add ons where not a great experience- in terms of a phone camera basic walkman i suppose it was very good- which was what it was competing against at the time..

in apples favour they added these faetures and they worked- that was the revolotion

Most of the time, my idealogical crusade for free software and such things makes my gadget-life more difficult for me than for most other people who just go and buy what's shiny and has animated icons.

This time, after actually reading through all this thread, it's to my advantage.
Instead of having to compare specs and market advantages between the models and platforms, I simply ask:

Are the open parts of the platform copyleft?

Android: very few (the kernel - and then some? I'm not even sure)
Maemo: most of what's not proprietary Nokia software in the first place

That's all I need to know. I stop reading there and ignore all other facts.

Besides, men @maemomarketing look a lot better than anyone I've seen in the Android camp. I prefer spending money on good looking people.

Life can be so easy...
