Too bad you didn't like it as much as you hoped for.

After switching from a HTC Diamond, I had to give up a superior keyboard layout, xda forum support, wider selection of apps, and 3g.

However even on 2.5g (AT&T), I find the N900 as a great internet tablet phone. It runs much faster than the Windows Mobile OS. Multi-tasking isn't new to me, but I do love the multi-desktop.

So what do I do? I bring both phones with me in my carry bag at all times. The backup HTC Diamond is for when my N900 is out of juice =).

I do hope that Nokia steps in to offer more support to our community, as it is much needed.

I think you want to spread FUD as long as you claim disappointed the absence of video for Nokia cell-phone.

I want video but I understand that there is no one on market today. However, in contrast with you, I know that N900 is first able to do a video (call from video-enabled PC, for exam, and you will have it) and the absence of it is just politics between Nokia and providers (they don't want it). But Nokia sells device which is ABLE to do it. It is a clear implicit offer - "write/hack it by yourself, and we would not be in trouble with mobile providers".

You can't do it with any another mobile, for them it is not a software issue.

I think N900 is not for "man in the street" or funboys but more for thinking people. Different usage pattern, different approach to missed features and different requirements at the end.

You missed - you should hack N1 and with additional ROM. It is pretty same as install another browser on N900... but you void your N1 warranty.

Can you give us an example of update with NEW features in 4 months for N1/iPhone/etc ?

Here's an example of something good you get from this community you don't get everywhere.

I recently started using the Tor proxy because it allowed me to access the Web from my N900 for $1 a day on the days I choose to use it -- $0 a day when I don't. (Anybody paying that price on their phones? iPhone, perhaps?)

But there was a problem. Some downloads weren't working! For example, I found that my rss feeds from Feedingit weren't updating properly.

So, YESTERDAY I posted a query about this.

TODAY the developer uploaded a fix and asked me to test it. Now my updates from Feedingit work fine.l

1.0 to 1.1, 4 months, no significant new features.
1.0 to 1.1.5, 13 months, no significant new features - still no video, no MMS

1.0 to 3.0 - 2 years to add Cut & Paste, Video recording (only on NEW hardware), & MMS.

What was your point again?

This is the BS that really pisses me off about these whine fests.

I looked at the link too and thought what is the point here? What I don't get is users who complain about users like me who are happy with the N900. Its pretty good for me, it will get better.

Another point is AFAIK if you are on a contract you can sell the device for some money and stick the sim in your old N95 or get some other phone for about the same amount of money that you can sell the N900 for and ride out the contract with a new device. The N900 is an unlocked device so there shouldn't be any issue there anyway.

Those looking for a modern entertainment style device ala iPhone or Android or looking for a business workhorse ala E71 or Winmo 6.5 came to the wrong party and I genuinely feel bad for them. Its like they came for a hipster party where all the cool kids hang out or a cocktail mixer dressed in a suit and tie and found a bunch of us nerds with pocket protectors and glasses sshing x-term commands with each other for fun . I really do feel bad because I might feel the same way if I didn't know what to expect.

Whats your point again? What relevance does the N900 have to the iphone?

However to address your rather irrelevant point

The iphone was the only phone/platform supported by apple so had a very long platform lifespan.

You simply cant compare the two. The N900 simply will not get this length/amount of support, and it WONT get many extra features - as mentioned by Nokia (after indicating additional features WOULD be forthcoming).
