So, this is a software issue anyway and can be resolved given enough dev resource.
So did 1.2 bring improved codec support as was hoped?

We need to look into OC'ing the DSP, heck even the CPU/GPU.
Need to squeeze more out of this baby!

Not based on my experience with the PR1.2 'beta' on the N950. In fact, some downloaded 480p YouTube videos that played perfectly in the stock player in PR1.1 now fail in PR1.2 'beta'. I don't know if the final release is any different.

Yeah you said that before in this thread IIRC, but thanks!

How about displaying a attention span that's greater than a gnat's?

Try going back at least 10-pages and having a good read...

It it still pretty amazing that a Raspberry Pi for 25$ can play 1080p video, and our beloved n9 for 500$+ can't even play base profile 720p smoothly...

Yeah, that's the unfortunate side of the old OMAP3 chip on N9. Rasperry Pi's cpu is abysmally slow, but it has separate GPU/decode chip that supports 1080p.
And yeah, some videos that worked (badly) on PR1.1, just error on PR1.2.

So much for freaking improved codecs...
Hopefully the community will eventually salvage something that we can swap-in.
OC'ing can't come soon enough too....

Previously on PR1.1, the video player will try to play any video, even if it lagged or stuttered terribly. Some videos were still watchable.

Now though, on PR1.2, if any video uses > X% of CPU/GPU, it goes...

You can't play these type of files on this device.

It's not a bug, it's a feature.
