For me the only reason for wanting Dalvik/sfDroid/... is because of the lack of support for native Jolla/Ubuntu Phone/whatever else apps. I'm sick of the "app store" availability crowd which means I have to have either Android or iOS to be able to access features of something else I bought.

If having a comfortable experience is your main concern then you are better off using an Android phone than Alien Dalvik. Solutions like sfdroid have a chance to be as good as Alien Dalvik but not if they get ignored.

This community exists because of free software. Free software largely defines it. Making proprietary software a decisive device purchasing factor hurts it and leads me to wonder why you are even here in the first place. Purchase a Fairphone not because it might run Alien Dalvik should some corporate overlords decide so, purchase it because it's likely that it will run sfdroid.
Because even commercial endeavour is still far from perfect and every new device is going to make it even worse. Teamviewer on phone works reliably (seen reports on TJC suggesting it took couple of months), not so on tablet. Having a company of people who are paid to look into such issues does not guarantee solutions, but at least gives hope. With community effort you have volunteers who might or might not be interested in the specific app that doesn't work for you and the community is nowhere near as active as it used to be, or numerous. Reverse engineering wifi drivers, community OTA updates or power kernel are very unlikely to happen. Fragmentation of android and devices makes it even worse as it's not hacking on the same HW all at the same time like with n900, but every device has its own quirks and irks. On top of that you have the bleeding edge making Sailfish a linux that can't run 99% of graphical linux software - Wayland (and SDL2 only and everything else that entails). Plenty of community members who could assist/participate on N900 as all you had to do was apt-get gcc and start tinkering on how to make a given app work are now having an unpassable gap. With maemo using same technologies you might've needed to research a bit to tweak the code here or there, comment that line, adjust this for ARM to get it working, resolution, maybe change a few parameters in the makefile, now most programs need serious rewrite (SDL 1.2->2, XWayland with no input...). The teamviewer actually looks like a very useful thing on a tablet that makes me consider flashing it with android as it should work normally there, hate myself for saying this (there are also lots of hacks around making normal X apps working in android which fail thanks to alien dalvik on jolla devices, sfdroid will not help with this too, just the perks of having tens of millions of devs with your OS in their pocket, being able to run more linux software than 'proper' linux device). Seen javispedro with a surface pro running gentoo during fosdem 2015, who would've thought that proper mobile linux device would be delivered by MS. /rant

OKAY [ 16.432s]

You live in an odd country indeed.
AFAIK in finland banks/stores cannot force you to use a single-provider solution, that'd be an offence against your civil liberties.

Oh, its Sweden you live in. Really strange, what is the reason they have bent over backwards to be r***d in the a*s by an american megacorporation??

Is it? I receive SMS with weekly account summaries and immediate alerts like low funds. I check my statements and pay my bills. All on my Jolla with no Android support.

SMS is good, it is vendor agnostic and very secure since handled by operator network instead of public IP transport.

Issues so far in Alpha2

* URadio plays AAC streams in to low sample rate it seems. Wierd... and sometimes uradio just crashed. Qt audio/gstreamer issue not sure.
* double tap will not wakeup device. not sure this can will be supported on FP cause of the screen type?
* Many applications is not available in Jolla store? Including my own apps (uradio, mymoney and sailserver) not sure why. Installed them manually and all works.

What works:

* Wifi works as expected
* My Bluetooth headset just worked right away yay
* Both front and back camera works

Not tested:

* Cellular

My cat is mad at me cause I just play with my phones

Picture taken with SFOS on Fairphone without flash.

First of bankid is just a authentication application to identify who you are. But it is a real mess....

In my country there is no alternatives.

In sweden Linux BankID on desktop computers are deprecated. And goverment and banks want you to have bankid. Infact you MUST have it.

So you have to choose this alternatives:

* Get windows laptop or get GoogePlay/IOS device.... Not even Macos X(only one version) have support for bankid application.

The thing is that the consults who wrote bankid are *****s and always has been first they used some java applet in Firefox. Then they introduced a desktop app. It was PITA from start windows only. Not even Mac. Then they ****ed it up even more using gtk in linux instead of using one API for all platforms. I gave them a tip to use Qt instead since it works way better on all desktop OS:es. Now they have decided to just kill linux version cause it was "to much job support it". Next to die is probably Mac OSX version.

Now the banks have introduced Swish in combo with bankid, for small payments, and lobbying as crazy and guess what it has been a real mess this summer. The plan was that many of the music festivals should use it instead of cash but it was real PITA to use with long delays and crashed servers and so on.

And of course same with Swish google play dependies so you can not install it on rooted devices. And ofcourse they lie and say it is cause of security.

But biggest problem is: No one cares. All swedish people are brainwashed by Google and Apple anyway.

Sorry for being offtopic and angry but...

This is a pretty sad situation indeed.
In Finland there's one bank to my knowledge that has announced it will do away with paper TAN code lists in favour of a mobile application, but as I understand they also have to offer it as an alternative because the law says so; you cannot have a bank dictate what kind of device the clients have.

Somehow I imagined Sweden would be haven for data security and the like, having founded the Pirate Party and all...

In Finland I think at least some branches of government have taken into Open Source and Open Standards;
For example our Ministry of Education has adopted an open Linux-based solution to be the platform for the new Ylioppilastutkinto (Student Final Examination/Graduation) tests.
They even had a Hacking-contest with money prizes that people were encouraged to try and break it before release, and all releases are out for public scrutiny!
Also our Tietosuojavaltuutettu (Ombudsman/Office for Data Security) is in favour of open systems and strongly against MIcrosoft/Google/Apple policies of user data misuse.

So all in all I hope our future will be better and more open!
