Same for my Treo 600 from 2004. The skin is all battered but the (proper hardware) keyboard still looks like new. My N900's keyboard started rubbing off after a couple of years.

Having used N900, HP Veer and Palm Pre 2 (and I expect Pre 3 to be the same), I am quite strongly against rubber buttons. Typing on my N900 is way better as my fingers don't stick to it and it provides a firm feedback.
Pre's keyboard is not bad (better than none), but it would be much better without those rubbery keys. Just my 2 cents...

I had a screwdriver back in the day, it still works but hasn't been picked up in four years or more.
I still like assembling the odd flat-pack furnture even though I don't like DIY enough to consider going to the garage and fetching the toolcase.
