I think this deserves its own thread, rather than having it buried in a discussion about Russia.

EDIT: Created a new thread here.

Who'd ever thought that the next "cold war" would be around mobile OS's.

I was wondering, How would you rank open-source OSs.

In order of most open source to least (left to right), would it be

AOSP > Sailfish > IOS ?

I guess what I'm saying is basic Android by itself is open source but it's what folks do to it that make it more closed, like adding google play services and such. Perhaps, AOSP + google play services would be put it more to the right of Sailfish. Would Mer be roughly the equivalent of AOSP in terms of openness? How would Maemo and Harmattan rank. Just asking

Feel free to add to pecking order of openness!

Not sure that it belongs here but looking at
https://vk.com/doc86155289_438423963...fadacc90383e3b
a file on the cooperation between SFOS and Open Mobile which seems legit to me,
help by some google translation, there is one slide affirming that SFOS is pre-installed on 5 difference phone devices. Most of them are obvious to regular readers of TMO but there is one which surprised me: mi-fone 5
Something coming soon (tm) ?

I don't think this is anything like a war & it would be pretty stupid to have one here as everybody shares the same goals and, above all, same problems. See, i'm a lawyer, i know that there are rules for the NSA (you can even sue them, although that rarely helps). I can't find much for FSB (might of course be the language barrier). So i'm a little careful when it comes to a mobile OS from Russia. That does not mean however that i dislike Russians and/or Russia.

Again: As long as Jolla remains independent, i'm rather grateful for Russian money pouring into their efforts.

But let's not go too much OT.

Ubuntu Touch > AOSP > Sailfish > iOS

But if I'd list them regarding my preferences, which in my case take into account usefulness and open sourceness, I'd list them as:

Sailfish > AOSP > Ubuntu Touch > iOS
