Because this is how it works with all other OS vendors, including free ones, such as Debian and Ubuntu

N900 is an very expensive device, and when ppl pay so much money for a device, they don't expect to get something half-assed, which works, then it doesn't, they you reboot it and it does again.

It is like buying Mercedes: you are paying extra, expecting to get something very nice to begin with, and then be treated with extra attention. Unfortunately, being a N900 user, I feel like I paid for lamborgini and got chevrolet. This thing has huge number of shortcomings and they are not getting enough attention.

Sure, nobody promised me any updates. Nobody owes me updates. I got no right to be demanding updates. But my expectations on this device were that it is Nokia's flagship product, there will be support, there will be updates, and there will be significant resources spent on fixing everything which is currently half assed on a device. How else do you expect people to keep buying N900s???

WTF?

What did I "state" ?

What would be interpreted?

Who would be doing this interpretation you speak of?

I don't know what you mean. Could you clarify your
casual statement please?

I guess the longer the delay, the better I expect PR1.2 to be. I hope i'm not deluding myself. We know that they aren't adding new features now, because they said they froze the release some time ago, which means they are just trying to fix and solidify what they have already.

I believe this is the suspect statement. Source please.

In other words did qgil state the N900 will get an official supported Nokia MeeGo upgrade? Or did he just say MeeGo will run on the N900 (a plain vanilla unbranded version, with NO Nokia support). Worlds of difference between the two.

That's the point. The only thing that is taking so long is the fact that there are bugs that need to be fixed. Like some random web browser bugs that occure in leaked PR 1.2.

He didn't state either. What he stated was that the N900 would get Meego with all working components (e.g. the hardware functionality).

My point is that people are going take that and twist that into "Nokia is going support Meego on the N900!". Which, like you said is is completly two different things. For example, as I put it. It's entirely possible that Nokia will "put Meego on the N900" but there will be no email client, etc..

Edit: BTW YoDude, any luck with those speedcamera POIs?

I'm tending to think it's cause they have fewer people working on it as more people are moved to Harmatten/MeeGo.

But, I can't see the underlings letting Ari have something that would brick his phone or delete email or contacts, etc. So if Ari's got it, it's got to be pretty close.

If the leaked version is the same as the HK version, as YoDude points out. It can hardly be dangerous to the N900. Nor could it be difficult to upgrade to the real PR1.2. It's a big if but very tempting as the real release is so uncertian.

If Nokia is truly concerned that the leak could damage a N900, a simple wait for it, very soon now, would perhaps saved a lot of people from flashing.

You see, that's why I hate ambiguous, one line posts referring to another post

I don't know if that's what he meant. But I know what I meant and it is exactly what I posted. It was posted by qgil that it would be an "option" from what I read. Nothing was said about any features. For all I know it could be the bigger turd than WinMo 2003.

BTW, that post of mine was well crafted, marginally entertaining, and provided links.

Perhaps I should instead just respond to posts like his with one line ambiguity too... but that's not how I think a forum should be.

Geneven asked a genuine question and I gave him my genuine opinion.

If you would like to read qgil's post's... talk.maemo.org has an app for that.

Yeah, use the list of 2445 or so that I provided in that thread or provide a clean copy as I requested via E-mail. Also as I stated via email the file you did provide was edited so many times and carried with it so much garbage you would have been better off with hand written notes.

Dude, there were locations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the GTA in your list which basically are just add ons to my original list that was posted here when I first converted it to WayFinder. >> http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=11911 ...back when the forum provided substance.

In fact why don't you post your file in the original thread for all to see and help out.

Sygic will crash if is provided with poi's located outside the geographic area of the loaded map. I think I also stated this in that thread where this discusion belongs.

Sorry for the sidebar geneven.

That's true and I retract my speculation about added portrait keyboard. Actually the new keyboard lay out makes sense if it remained landscape. On its side it may be easier to thumb then the old one. I hope it at least has an "ABC" vs. "QWERTY" option as this would be easier to reckon for some when it's on its side.

So, if we take added features and further bug squashes out of the equation, perhaps the delay is on the server side with regard to OVI.

They just started beta testing of the newest version of OVI Suite with improved N900 functionality last week.

Ah, that explains it. Meh, what a shame. I still think that's a terrible idea, since that means I have to split the POI for speed camera into MD, VA, and NC.
