just a question out of curiosity. It's been bugging me and since I know squinto about the OS08 and/or Linux (though I was proud that I FINALLY remembered 'halt' from my old Solaris days...easy way to turn the tablet off while in xterm...)

- haven't looked at what 'halt' is linked to on the tablet, but i can tell you that generally one shouldn't use halt to bring down a Linux system... dunno if filesystems are unmounted and services stopped properly... could munge or hork the system?
- best to use:
/sbin/shutdown -h now
- AFA power: i see what you're talking about... the only 'longish' use i see for my dongle/USB connection would be for a serial I/O adapter (used to control an X-10 pad or high-frequency radio transceiver)...
- otherwise i generally just attach a thumbdrive or HD for file transfers and backups...
