I think you've got me wrong.. I was talking about what my current usecases are with my trusty N800. Now try to imagine doing this on a smaller screen. Just right now i don't even use Skype on it (boy, I would kill for a teamspeak client...)

I was speaking in terms of a new "InternetTablet" not a smartphone. That this class of devices got smaller screes than N8x0 isn't that new to me ;-)

Maybe I should have said this in my previous post :-)

If your product designers can make a magnifier that I can reach through with a stylus to tap the screen below, I'll take back everything I ever said about them hiding my D-pad.

I am really confused.

I dont believe the rx-51 has gsm capability. We should have surely known if it had. No doubt. I have been following the tablets since 770 and never this big a thing was a surprise. So i really think the gsm part is just a rumour.
If that is true, the screen size doesnt make sense. What is the point of having a gsm less device of that size when you already have many competitors including the n97 with same size and gsm.So i would assume the screen size also to be wrong. But all the support for the screen size from the nokia guys shows that there is some thing in the pipe for a maemo phone in the future.

Lets see

It has sparked lots of interest in what was a slowly dying hardware field. Who knows, maybe its free market research. Leak to the community and see how well it goes down before deciding on which device to lead with. The smaller screen gets more new market purchases and Nokia already know they have the current owners on board for a proper tablet. Launching with a phone may do the world of good for maemo. This is the test to find out how much fuss the community kicks up about it. So hopefully the proper NIT will follow shortly. Maybe I'm just being optimistic though.

[qole sarcasm]Yeah, 'cause their kernel alternatives were so nice and plentiful.[/qole sarcasm]

Let's name them: Palm, Symbian and WinMo.

They had no choice.

(I moderated the tags. They were gratuitous and had little to do with this post.)

As I said previously, I'm resting my case. But no, I'm not trying to claim that the new UI design would make screens bigger for apps used in full screen mode. As admitted, bigger is better for many of the use cases that the current Internet Tablets are used for by people in this thread. I recognise this and appreciate the active community.

I'm done for today. Spent already plenty of time on discussing about Maemo 5. I spent especially too much time here considering that we haven't even said what which Maemo device will be. Hopefully I could clarify a little bit for the community what we have said publicly about Maemo 5 and the purpose of Maemo in the future.
