I have a question:

Sometimes the video and audio are not in sync....do you know why?? And sometimes it's in sync! When it's not in sync, i stop and play again and it's in sync again. It seems to lag behind when it's out of synch. Anybody know how to fix this? And why it behaves like that?

Hi,

I read through the entire thread, tried a lot of things and it just doesn't seem to work.
I am running windows xp

When I did the first step by installing git, and then I am supposed to run this line
cd c:\
git clone git://github.com/solmis/knots.git
When I enter the git clone line, I get
'git' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Then the next step it to

Unzip it somewhere (not c:\) and copy the ruby folder and run.cmd to c:\knots.
Copy the folder and paste it where?

Sorry if my questions are noobish, but I really seem to like the concept of this software, can't wait to use it and blow my android and iphone buddies mind

For some reason git failed to add its bin folder to your path. Open cmd.exe and run these commands:

Code:
cd \
Code:
"c:\Program Files\Git\bin\git" clone git://github.com/solmis/knots.git
(Two commands, make sure the second one is on same line)

After a while you should have knots folder in your c:\ .Then just extract the zip to c:\ (info is little outdated, if you extract it to c:\ ruby and run.cmd should go into c:\knots)

Then copy the win32\sqlite3.dll to c:\Windows\System32 and server should start normally. Make sure you check that VLC and ffmpeg paths are automatically set in the settings. If not, please fill them and restart the server.

ukki, can you answer my question. Why is video and audio sometimes not in sync?? Is it due to mplayer in the N900? Also how come you can not add Youtube video to your collection?? Are you looking to fix and improve on the N900 version...for example, make it easy to add album arts or artist photos to your collection...rather than doing it manually.

Well losing sync can happen for many reasons. Does it happen when you use the n8x0 profile for example? I think the n900 profile may be too high quality for streaming with some videos. VLC does all the transcoding so it may also have problems with converting different formats.

Youtube has probably changed the page layout. I will probably remove it completely, because the flv videos are so bad and you need to create custom profiles for them to work anyways.

I'm constantly working on it, you can fetch the latest changes/fixes by running "git pull" command in the knots folder. I will probably work on the client a bit too at some point.

Remember, Knots is in extras-devel and it's not meant for the end users. Not sure it ever will be.

No it's the same no matter what profile you use.

Another question....do you know why i can't connect to server using Tmobile 3G?? I already forward port 19780. I can connect ONLY with my local wi-fi.

When you connect via T-Mobile (or any other connection OUTSIDE your local area network), you need to use your servers outside IP and not LAN IP address (the 192.168...). Just making sure you realize that. If it still doesn't work, give a ring to T-Mobile, I'm guessing ukki can't really help you fix network problems.

Ok i got this working through 3G Tmobile now. You simply use your real address instead of the LAN IP (192.168...). But the problem is it's TOO SLOW to playback ANY video.

Here's the the result i found:

1.Using wi-fi with LAN IP (QUALITY and PLAYBACK IS EXCELLENT...very smooth)

2.Using Tmobile 3G with server outside IP (HORRIBLE...can't play at all...froze)

3.Using wi-fi with server outside IP (HORRIBLE...can't play at all...froze...just like #2)

Now i have no doubt there is something wrong here. How can wi-fi play back using outside IP render just as laggy as the 3G?? There must be something wrong with the program? I know it's still in alpha stage of development...but i am giving you feedback ukki.

Need help here please. I'm on a Mac running 10.6.2 and can't get past the "Just point your browser to http://localhost:1978" step. I've tried forwarding port 1978, turning on web sharing, subbing my local LAN ip for localhost, subbing my actual ip for localhost...all to no avail. Can anyone help a guy on a Mac or are all of you on PC's?
