"MSN seems to be having issues right now. But honestly, why use Pidgin? Conversation makes it obsolete for the most part."

I agree on that one totally but i tried it to assure it wasn't a problem related to telepathy-butterfly.

Where is this haze everyone is talking about? I enabled the extra-testing section and can't find haze. Did a search and the only thing that came up was "Pidgin Extra Protocols (Bonjour and Sametime)". Is this haze?

Also I just want to have msn built into conversations. So if I install "account-plugin-butterfly" is this all I need for msn so I don't need haze at all? If so what does haze do?

haze is in devel. i kind of wonder if certain apps/plugins stay in devel and extras for nokias legal safety. i know aim and yahoo are big sticklers on only using their clients to connect to their servers, which might be why that connectivity wasnt provided out of the box with the n900. thats just pure speculation though, please someone correct me if you know otherwise =D

This seems to be a rather confusing thread so I thought I might clear up some things:
  • A new N900 supports skype and xmpp (gtalk, ovi) protocols for im out of the box. you can add more support with plugins.
  • telepathy-haze is a plugin that supports many protocols: msn, aim, yahoo and more.
  • telepathy-butterfly is a plugin that supports only msn.
  • you don't need both plugins. butterfly is for MSN. Haze is for MSN and other protocols.
  • if you don't like having the im stuff integrated into your contacts you're free to use a separate application like aMSN or pidgin instead. aMSN supports MSN. Pidgin supports MSN and lots of other protocols. You don't need both.
  • To get the butterfly plugin you need to enable the extras-testing repository, where you can find software that is still unstable and may drain your battery.
  • To get the haze plugin you need to enable the extras-devel repository, where you can find software that is might be very unstable and may even brick your device or delete your data. Be warned.

Here is the guide how to transport MSN contacts into Jabber.
http://delx.net.au/projects/pymsnt/docs/user.html
You can't do it with the Jabber's client on the N900 .Then you must download a Jabber client ( I use Psi) for your computer .After transport all contacts MSN, you can log in Jabber'client on the N900 and voilą
It works for other IM like AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, .... All you need that you must find a Jabber's server that support IM transport:
List Jabber's server :
http://www.jabberes.org/servers/

Don't forget to dellte all MSN contacts you dont need in MSN Messenger if you you dont want to see its on your N900
If you have others questions , ask me ^^
