I'm waiting for Peter or Quim to comment on this. Blogosphere is not a good source of information.

Maemo. Not N900. The phone blogs may just have thought it ment the N900. And that Maemo will get it has been quoted all through this thread. The N900 part has not been confirmed by anyone but bloggers.

That is correct - nothing official yet, so lets stay tuned. But tbh if it doesnt come for the N900 it will certainly make me think a lot harder about purchasing another Nokia device in the future.

But nokia are updating all other current hi-end phones with the software. Surely that then becomes Nokia's business norm. You have a current high end phone - then have some great free software? Oh - except you guys. They defined the norm themselves.

That's the point - it's not that they promised it to everybody else but us - it's that they they didn't promise it to anybody - but everybody but us gets it (as it currently stands).

A one time action is not a norm. And what they're doing here is giving already existing S60 software to S60 phones. That's a marketing stunt that is quite a bit easier than porting it to Maemo. When they want to port it to Maemo, it would require a bit of work.

"the press conference announcing the news this morning, Nokia executive vice president Anssi Vanjoki confirmed that the Nokia N900, which runs Maemo 5, a different operating system to most Nokia smartphones, will eventually support the free turn by turn service too.

“In later dates we will be increasing the number of support for this [sic] and certainly moving forward it will also support Maemo,” he told reporters.

Ansii Vanjoki sure thinks it's coming....

Since evryone keeps quoting Blogs and speculation
Let me google it for you
No where in the search results is a direct quote from Nokia with a solid answer/date/anything. Just blogs and heresay from "Nokia insiders".
Lets just wait till official confirmation from the powers that be before damning the device to a dusty hell in a drawer somewhere.
