I personally find a charm in raw, hardcore hacker videos and presentations of new technologies done without a company hat on.. but there is of course a balance to be done between that and doing marketing for customers..
Charming... I'm sure. But raw, unfiltered videos do not equate to effective communication. Especially when I have to seek them out, doubt their origin and/or credibility. Even though I've seen it through a community I might be a part of (or not a part of), it doesn't mean I'll consider it marketing.

Marketing is something totally different. And Nokia has shown that they do not understand viral marketing.

Ovi, angry, the transforming thing (I didn't even know it was about Maemo until the very end), among many others.

So you think Apple will provide details about iPhone5 or iPad2 before the products are launched?

I think Intel is actually doing a fair bit through meegozone.com at least. But it's also about who lifts the marketing burden. I personally think the marketing should come from the MeeGo project, with resources and people contributed from the major vendors, not from a specific vendor.. Vendors should advertise their differentiation and their devices..

No more answers until you answer mine. Seriously... that's a huge pet peeve of mine.

To reiterate, who are you comparing Nokia to in terms of communication?

Twitter should not be your only source for marketing.

Of course. Can I ask what kind of marketing you'd like to see? and I personally think you should join up with the marketing guys [1] to suggest your ideas.

I suppose I don't need to say that it's important to keep MeeGo the platform and 'Nokia MeeGo' fairly seperate in terms of marketing. How does Android do marketing?

I don't believe we'll see MeeGo (not related to any devices, that is) commercials on the streets at least.

I think MeeGo is doing alright in communicating, they can improve it more like a SpreadFirefox type effort and as stated those type of efforts are ongoing. But I think what most here are actually more disappointed in the level of Comunications the Vendor 'Nokia' is doing in this case. Their is more uncertainty surrounding Nokia rather than the MeeGo project as it has milestones and paths of communication through direct contact with developers. It is Nokia which is of concern, they are still tight lipped about a lot of things, and they lack the hyperbolic machine that it's competitors use to their advantage. We already know more about the Ipad 2 already, and over the years you have to understand this is more of a strategic leak than anything ... heck companies now give out teasers and ads of upcoming devices like the Motorola Tablet which is still forthcoming. We still don't know if Nokia wants to seriously approach the Tablet market or not.

Apple iOS people and Google Android people, obviously.

No need to answer my previous question, it was more of a rhetorical one; this is one of those time sink threads where absolutely no information gets transmitted in any direction.

That's obvious.

Actually those videos could be a very valuable place in a corporate marketing strategy
(Nokia appears to have lost any visible corporate marketing strategy)

Those videos actually provide the 'early adopter' market players
with the confirmation that the product is actually existent.
Otherwise, the Alpha Users would be drifting off to other products.

I guess one telling point is here, right now:
one of the biggest and fastest growing monster threads here on Maemo
is Not about Meego:
[TUTORIAL GIGA UPDATE] Do you smell it, do you? It's Gingerbread! (1,048)

In how many ways is that so depressing? sigh....

Anyway, Happy New Year and
Here's a toast to many more hacker videos of Meego
but please let it be Nokia hardware and not just the competitors!
