Nokia said that they wouldnt be tied into exclusive deals with providers. So that vodafone rumour doesnt hold up.

Could we get an idea of when the orders were placed for those people that have been charged so maybe we can see if this might be a quick shipment for early preorders?
Here you go

Now did Gordon move April Fools day to a little later in the year to add humour to our dull Autumunal lives?

Anyone else get the feeling that Nokia UK is full of headless chickens today?

But how long before they get through the Farmers/Fishermens blockade of the ports though? (Well they haven't had one for a bit so we must be due one!)

Wow, I wasn't expecting to have to explain my comments, but since you asked...

What I mean is this: if you watch a Nokia video like their "Computer Grade Performance" one, you'll see lots of glitz. There's lots of action, with a musical beat in the background, lots of bright lights and gleaming bits, everything happens smoothly and nothing goes wrong.

If you fall in techno-lust, this is the dream that you are buying. And when the device arrives, it's the dream you are expecting to experience.

But by the next morning it's clear that it's just a dream. There isn't always enough light to take a decent photo, your 3G signal is sometimes intermittent, you end up with three duplicate contacts for "John" "john" and "Jonno", some websites load slower than in the shiny Nokia video, your battery runs flat so you can't make calls on the way home from work, one of your favourite games freezes up now and then, and so on.

If you were in lust with the device, this experience will bring you back to earth with a hard landing. But if you're looking to build a long-term working relationship with the device, you'll learn its foibles. You'll find ways to live with its weaknesses, and you'll continue to explore its strengths. Over time, the foibles will trouble you less, and you'll discover and enjoy more and more of its strengths.

The N900 looks to be a device that will reward this realistic long-term approach.

If you expect the N900 to be "better than (say) an iPhone", you're going to be disappointed because there are some ways in which it isn't "better" (e.g. it's thicker). But if you expect it to be "different from an iPhone", you're going to be thrilled because the N900 is a richer, more subtle, more rewarding and much less shallow device, and it will reward you with many new discoveries and improvements over the life of the device.

Regards,
Roger
