Really? Here in the UK you can get a prepaid SIM card in any supermarket.
I have never ever heard of a phone breaking a SIM card.

The result was about ten connections/disconnections per minute when I was handling the phone, even more while walking. That killed all those SIMs.

Sounds like what was happening to me, even if the cause might have been a software bug (in ofono) rather than hardware.
I guess there's some flash memory on the card and too many reads/writes can kill it.

...basically the apps are tiny java code, stored on card.
the cards can more than just provide you with a number
its even exploitable.

Tried today another SIM card and no luck. Time to write an E-mail to Finland.
Wonder if a factory reset (another one) could do something useful.

Anyway, your case sounds like the problem is with your phone, not your SIM card. If it were mine, I would open it and try to fix it myself (it is most likely just a contact problem after all) but if you are not comfortable with that, send it to Jolla Care or take it to any random phone repair kiosk down the road.
Oh, and...
It is more than just a software reboot since it may involve different initialization for the hardware components.
