(so, yeah, MeeGo is toast)
And look who's there also... "The Linux Foundation will host the project, where Tizen development will be completely open and led by a technical steering team composed of Intel and Samsung."

Samsung said they are going to make Bada open source, and now Tizen?

But in the new project, a lot of things will be the same as they were in the MeeGo project. The Tizen project will reside within the Linux Foundation, will be governed by a Technical Steering Group, and will be developed openly with familiar and improved infrastructure. Much like MeeGo, the Tizen project will support multiple device categories, including Tablets, Netbooks, Handsets, Smart TV, and In-Vehicle Infotainment systems.
Apparently, the Linux Foundation will still be hosting this. And instead of Intel + Nokia, it's Intel + Samsung.

And the move to HTML5 does make sense - Apple and Microsoft are pushing them for a single write, single compile, run everywhere app store, while native development is still possible. (Whether this is better or not than Android's Java Dalvik & NDK is yet to be seen.)

...And methinks Qt licensing bumped into this somehow.

Let's see what comes out of it.

Reinventing the wheel again ...

Delaying again ...

Changing the APIs and frameworks again ...

I only want a Debian/Ubuntu mobile computer. Today the only choice is the N900.

It is all good now cuz it will be like nokia + intel = meego and also samsung + intel = tizen ,the only thing to worry about is Qt gonna lag behind the HTML 5 but that is a may be .
As long as Qt remains on top of everything ,meego will not be dead,Qt should be central to Tizen & Without Qt the Tizen OS is really gonna find hard time, and by the time HTML5 does become accepted/popular Tizen may well be a distant memory .

Interesting. Neither the Tizen site nor the Linux/Limo foundation press releases seems to mention of Qt, unless I missed it.

I hope they realise that HTML5 on its own is not really a 'development platform'.

thanks

JavaScript and HTML5 are actually not that bad to work with, these days. But shame that this will certainly mean more delays before we see any reasonably open devices.

What does this mean for MeeGo 1.3 and MeeGo CE? Are these still developed?
