never put all the eggs in the same basket ...

I am sure even if it is not shipped in retail product this project will never be stopped ... If this project aim to be killed i am sure it will survive somehow elsewhere in an other form ...

For instance look how the amiga survived after all those years...

I find that to be an extremely offensive name, I stopped calling it that ages ago
Maemo6x is far more appropriate and technically more accurate.
Not saying it's a direct descendant of Maemo5x, there's some significant differences.
But it most certainly isn't MeeGo proper, it never even got close to fully transitioning.
It's commercial name is Meego harmattan and while you're right it doesn't work that way Daewoo cars are still the same but these days we call them crysler.

Meego is not dead, since it was never alive!

Oh I know, I blame mostly the bizarre decision to stick w/MeeGo branding, even after they'd ditched the strategy.
They went to great lengths to secure it from the LF....
When they could've immediately subverted MeeGo, & referred only to Harmattan, Maemo, or even just Nokia N9.*
It wasn't as though MeeGo was a household name by Feb 2011...
They hadn't done a great deal of marketing by that point for the handset side of things.
It's almost like they wanted to attract the "MeeGo is dead" ridicule/mantra from the blogosphere.

*granted they did do this to some extent

Who cares what its called outside of TMO? we all know what it means.
It's not like anyone will recognise Maemo over Meego. And as this is the last device I no longer think its important what pseudo tech blog "journalists" call it. I still trip over myself though when someone asks me what OS the N9 runs. Mee..Maem.Harma..MEEGO!

Doesn't matter. I avoid calling it Meego-Harmattan because it's misleading. Just Harmattan alone is enough. Nokia's argument was that it's temporary, and Harmattan would become real Meego. This never happened and won't happen. So now there are no reasons at all to call it Meego.

Afaik Ollila wanted to make Vanjoki as a new boss after Kallasvuo. That didn't happen because (north american) investors insisted new director must come outside of Finland, otherwise Ollila will be replaced as soon as possible. The rest is history. How different things could be if Vanjoki would be there leading Nokia...

I would've called it MaeOS.
That way its telling of its roots (Maemo) and its not so weird to say; May-o-s.
And funny derivatives could be contrived (eg "droid" in the Android ecosystem) like maePhone, maeTab, mae-onnaise etc etc

I call it Debian-Based I was so glad that they didn't do a full on 'MeeGo' release, because MeeGo was/is using RPMs.

That really was the one thing that made me go "NOOOOOOOO!!"

Or better told here;

http://www.nooooooooooooooo.com/

While RPMs and yum are okay nowadays, back when I first started using Linux they absolutely stunk. At one point Connectiva even ported apt over for RPM (before Yum came out) but not that many places used it, even RedHat started to, but then they switched to Yum (YellowDog Update Manager, if I recall), so it seems they just didn't want to use apt-get goodness.

So really, Harmattan is more like Maemo6x than it is MeeGo 1.2.
