I am planning to re-build my N800 soon but keep putting it off in the hope that Gronmayer comes back on the air.

The right answer is not to integrate repository-finding functionality into Application Manager but for developers to finally get a sodding clue and upload their software into maemo extras or extras-devel.

Yeah, but maybe this is never going to happen for whatever reason.

In the meantime, I appreciated the help that Gronmayer gave me to find applications and their repos. Now it is gone.

BTW. I did not mean to say that Application Manager should be upgraded, just the Maemo web-site to point at off-Maemo repositories along with an application finding search tool like the one in Gronmayer.

Tell me, in the Linux world, is it always the rule that only the originating developer adds stuff to a repository, or are some repositories maintained independently of the original developers?

Hilarious. My username is my real first name and the initial letter of my real surname.

My point is only that I don't think that you are going to be able to force every developer to bend to your will, even if you are right.

Who suggested force?

My suggestions have been about encouragement and education. And there should be incentives, too...

Just to be clear, TR et al, do you all think that Gronmayer was a bad idea and that end users are better off now that it is broken?
