I prefer Catorise. It's a good application, but I've a problem with it: I don't know how often it updates the menu, but I'm having a little less battery duration since I'd installed it. I'll try to uninstall and see if this continues.

I use 'catorise' at the moment
I did have 'my menu' installed but changed to 'catorise' when i found out 'catorise' had a "bug" which meant you could add multiple shortcuts to every desktop (which i want to do ... see http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...068#post497068 and vote if you agree) ....
installed it ...
it didnt have the "bug"...
didnt bother to change back to 'my menu' as it seemed roughly the same.

Would be nice if you could move things to different folders though as the following shortcuts are in the wrong folders for me
Xploder is in 'ovi' ...... should be in 'games'
speedometer is in 'ovi' should be in 'location & navigation'
seismometer is in 'ovi' should be in 'science'
ACTUALLY LOOKING AT IT NOW ALL THE ITEMS IN 'OVI' FOLDER SHOULD BE SOMEWHERE ELSE!!
attitude is in 'graphics' should be in 'science'
fm boost is in 'system' should be in 'multimedia'

im not saying my opinion is correct as to these items should be in X folder but i would prefer it that way so would be nice if i could move them around myself.

I just edit my own menu files by hand - that way things end up exactly where I want them.

catorise ftw
it automatically sorts the apps by the tags in the package-data.
and it uses the icons from the app-manager.

mymenu does this classification per hand - i think the author keeps arranging them. the icons don't fit in my theme too.

so i'll go with catorise. (:

when I first tried mymenu the installation wasn't successful and quickly rebooted and uninstalled it. Catorise installed fine except that right portion of the app manager was there until I rebooted. The only thing that would be great is if the menu icons were a bit bigger coz they look really small.

Why didn't you make a poll?
Same here... MyMenu put me in an infinite boot loop until it finally got stuck mid-boot -- had to reflash.

Catorise does just what I had been looking for. I'm just waiting for a nice GUI editor to allow some tweaking. e.g. have some apps that are not in the category folders so that they can be clicked immediately (sort of like the "MySelection" section of the 770/n8x0 app menu)

your accusation is very harsh and people will get wrong idea by it.
Jaffa originally writ some code to be used in MyMenu but the author did not use it and decided to go a different way, so Jaffa decided to put it to use.
he as never claimed the idea was his and he even gives credit to the MyMenu author in the description of Catorise in app manager.

That's not the way i remember it happening. Jaffa offered to help (and offer was accepted) by preparing the code to use the package's classification to automatically categorise the app icons. He made quick work of it and the original author had (it seemed) already done something similar on his own. That he didn't actually implement that puzzles me because that's the impression i had. I guess Jaffa decided to not let a perfectly reasonable and functional contribution go to waste by making an alternative. It's just as well. If MyMenu is still using only a hand-coded list, it's going to require constant updating and babysitting to keep working properly, and could very well end up as abandonware.

It's too bad the person with the original idea didn't utilize the improvements offered. Having a single working app with various options would have been a preferable solution.

I don't use either, as i have too few apps installed to want to add an extra level of menus.
