No problem at all.
Yes, you can copy the backup file to the PC and after that back to the phone, you will be able to restore the backup.
Flashing helps if you want a new start with the phone, or if you bricked your device.
If you flash it, it will be just like new (no user data on it).
however, by clicking the communication in backup options, will that include the msn pecan conversations also? and will contact numbers be saved also?
besides, I was reading few minutes ago about something that is called CSSU....have any idea if it is beter than maemo 5 OS updates or it's not worthy?

You can use Nokia Suite to backup your datas, too.
Now it works, even contacts groups for SMS!!!
however, is the nokia suite an application that I should download to my n900 and to my computer also like I used to do with previous nokia phones?or in n900 it is different? because I once tried to move some data using suite to my computer but that didnnt work...
