+1, I hate smiley icons...
Even though I frequently write smileys, I dont want the smiley icons to appear:P

Edit the binary /usr/bin/rtcom-messaging-ui.launch (hexedit is in extras-devel) and replace the strings ":-)", etc. with strings that you do want to be replaced by stupid graphics. For example, "]'<".

Thanks Matan, now all smiley-codes have been replaced by random special-characters.
So unless someone rages at the keyboard typing all kinds of random stuff I should be ok

Let's play a game - report your phone number, and the first person that sends you an SMS that shows a smiley gets a prize.

Gah, seems they're back with PR1.1...
I was traumatized when the first thing I saw this morning was a smiley, haha. I'll have to delete them again.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that.

Besides being annoying in general, the smileys also showed wrong in the message preview window (not sure if the message recipient gets the message similarly wrong).

For example if I type ":D" it gets replaced by the smiley icon, and then back in text mode it's ":d". Not the best possible feature to change your "emotion" to the opposite one if you're using smileys. :p

I'd prefer this be fixed some other way than a hex-editor.
