waze has the source code for iphone, android, windows mobile, and symbian up on their website. (http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Source_code)
would this be enough for the community port it to maemo if waze themselves dont have the time?

I figured a free GPS turn by turn navigation solution powered by the community would fit right in here.
Especially since OVI Maps has been a disappointment and Sygic is, well, you know the story...
But if it isnt possible or way too difficult to bother that is another issue.
