Thanks for your answer. I had kernel power installed, but I removed it.
I have fcam installed, but still the same problem when it's removed.
Here is what I get when running panorama from xterm :
user@Nokia-N900:~$ panorama

I had the error message, and I pressed several times on camera button, but nothing appears on the stderr/stdout

Perhaps install sysklogd and see if anything relevant gets entered into /var/log/syslog & /userlog. It can be more informative than the console.
Ultimately, one needs to reflash everything and make panorama the first prog installed and test. If it works then install the next, test on so on. If it fails as the first install then that is reportable (even if a unique failure) as extraneous progs and libraries are not at issue...
