The strange battery behaviour you saw is "normal".
The battery state is kind of saved on the n900, not on battery. (it is a flaw)
That gets confused if you switch batteries. So probably your old battery had 30% and got replaced with an empty one.

I was going to say...
that it could be your battery...but you made a brief mention you have a bunch of batteries...so I am assuming it shows the same symptoms regardless which battery you use,
and as well...it could have some little to do with your charge cable...

Buttttt....
all things considered ...if it is a n900 you messed with originally ...fixing the gsm...
well ...god ...anything ...right down to the bme may be wonky now.

How long after the repair you did...did the symptoms first start appearing?
Right away? or did it take some time to manifest?

If you can't quite fix it...saying the battery still wishes to get too much unbalanced incoming charge , thus making the chemicals in said battery a serious threat...
If you do get the bme even quasi stabilized ...
then you could perhaps safely use a dummy battery with a proper regulator and use it hooked permanently to usb, to supply it power.
a micro desktop maemo pc ...essentially...

I would not run it with battery in this state.
Look for an equal hot spot on the pcb.
Since you have two devices (and your fingers can feal heat) you can even compare heat between them.
But honestly fixing might get complicated, if you cant spot something simple and obvious.
How did you fix gsm? reflow, reball, new chip, springs?
The spring idea but with a simple piece of cardboard in a small size between the chip and the metal cover plate

The problem was already there before the GSM fix. According to the previous owner it started long time ago. All batteries do the same including two chinese fake ones. A point i forgot to mention is that in this one the battery stays hours on charger and never gets full and green Led.
Tried
gconftool-2 -s -t int /apps/osso/status-area-applet-battery/use_design_capacity 0
It says there is no 0 value

well...
geez...
it is a long standing issue that predates your ownership even...
so it is a complete unknown as to what started the problem in the first place...
Kind of hard to go step by step through what got the device to this point ....considering you weren't even present when the past owner did whatever he did...
That just makes things that much harder to troubleshoot

I will try a bme reset just to assure it is not from that. Can you please explain how to do that?

God it has been forever since I had to do a bme reset.
I suggest instead of me giving you an explanation where I will more than likely forget to mention something important...
pythoneye, juice , peter, ...they have probably done one more recently than I , it has been more than 6 years since I did one...
I suggest pm-ing one of the boys and get their assistance with it...
they won't steer you wrong.

Thought about the problem all night and what i think it's hapening is that there is a hardware problem (maybe originated by a deficient USB port resolder or something else). The heat source is the battery and even connected to the charger it has a great consumption

yeah...definitely something isn't right...
I think referencing the search concerning bme, battery consumption, hot battery, fast draining battery, that kind of thing...
will likely show up threads where these issues are prevalent.
There may be remedies, fixes and suggested courses of action to take to troubleshoot exactly where the issue may be springing from, and nip it in the bud.
Also, said threads will definitely have the folks assisting, who will be obvious as to their understanding of the issue.
It being a forte of theirs.
So failing finding an in-your-face obvious answer or set of instructions to follow...
you will definitely know exactly who the battery wizards are and then pm them directly and get their aid...

Whatever you do ..
Definitely if you continue with this...
it would be good to have a running dialogue on this thread of what is suggested you do, how it went, and the results...
It would definitely help any who come after you ...
looking for an answer to the same problem .
