I didn't know anything about the architecture of Maemo until I found out that it is based on Devuan!

Maemo Leste is (currently) based on Devuan, not older versions of Maemo.
You should read up on the history of Maemo itself, and why a desktop environment & so many applications already exist.
Most people here probably hope for Maemo Leste to work on a phone that is running an older version of Maemo already. The Pinephone is a fairly recent addition to the list of supported devices.
Did you say you edited this page? I still don't see actual installation instructions there? Compare to the N900 page.
